"Please wait" ... panasonic dmr-e85h seems frozen

After trying to make the DVR do something it didn't want to do, the display came on and read "Please wait". After leaving it like this the rest of the month, and it still read "Please wait". I tried turning on the power, and nothing. I tried to open the disc door, and nothing. What could this be?
The DVR seems to be frozen, except for the "Please wait". How can I get the default settings to kick in to make the DVR functional?

    turning it off and turning back on did not help. It's still frozen and
    screen stating "Please wait. . . "

Open case and look for failed capacitors, which are cylindrical and will have a bulging top and a yellow/gold substance leaking out. If this is the problem, search for previous solutions that mention "solder capacitor C1260" for the DMR-E85. I had a similar 'no power' problem with my DMR-E55 and my son and I were able to fix it Sunday. Not hard to do and mine is working again!

You need to replace the STR-G6353 voltage regulator on the power supply board. Full proceedure with photos at this link: http://www.rbjtech.net/electrical/e85/e85.htm#0 I did this on my DMR-E85H and it now works like new.

Unable to boot up dvr, stops with at error U99
Panasonic has a web site below where you can download drivers to a disc that can be used to update your dvr. It also has
the operationg instructions on PDF that you can download & print.

Frozen on the Please Wait
This is a hard drive failure and is expensive to fix, and not worthwhile in my opinion.  Mine packed in with a disc stuck in the disc drive. It was difficult to retrieve. If you have no disc trapped in the tray, I would suggest dismantling anyway and removing the hard drive if you have a load of unwatched content recorded. You can buy a cable to hook it up to a PC - Although I have not done this yet.

Check caps on P/S C1270 and C1271 if puffy replace with {2} 1000uf 35vdc and you should be fine.
