The buttons on my lcd screen does not work anymore. I tried calibrating it, but it just stays in calibrating mode as if it is not calibrating. this is for the DcR hc21

when you remove and then insert a cartridge the lcd window will tell you to calibrate. (HP cartridge anyway). try pulling the cartridge out and then popping it back in and check what it says on lcd screen. otherwise you can go into tools to have it calibrate I believe its in the menu button right next to the lcd screen.

Based on the information you've provided, it seems that the touch screen panel is not aligned. You can try Calibrating the touch screen to resolve the issue.
Calibration option is in the Main Settings 1 Menu of the Camera. Calibration option enables you to perform calibration when the touch panel buttons do not react at the appropriate points where you touch. You can use the paint pen, touch the X mark displayed on the screen. The X mark moves on the screen. Once the calibration option is finished successfully, the touch screen should work.
The Calibration option can be done only if the Menu is accessible.
You can also perform a power reset before performing the Calibration.

Performing a manual power reset

Turn off the camera.

Remove the battery pack.

Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.

Allow the camera to remain without power for 60 seconds.

Reinsert the battery pack.

Turn on the camera.
This should resolve the issue.

try recalibrating the lcd. to do this, please follow the steps below:

One can incorrectly calibrate the remote by pressing areas on LCD other than the ones marked during the calibration process.

Solution
To re-calibrate a remote which has been incorrectly calibrated, please follow these steps:

1. Put the remote in safe mode.
   1. Remove the battery
   2. Hold down the System Off button on the remote while inserting the battery back into the remote
   3. Continue to hold the System Off button until the remotes LCD has lit up and reads Safe Mode
   4. Let go of the power button
2. Reboot the Remote
   1. Remove the battery once more
   2. Re-insert the battery
3. Follow the calibration wizard on the Remote to re-calibrate it by pressing on the areas indicated.
   

When you say the buttons "sometimes" lite up, do you mean just when they feel like it or only when you power it up or off? And is it making any noise when you power it up? If they're only working when you turn it on and then they go off, then you have a firmware problem and you need to have it re-flashed.. If they turn on and stay on, and it makes noises (like you can hear the keytones when ya press them) then it has got a bad LCD and that's a pretty inexpensive fix (check Ebay for a replacement screen)

I have exactly the same problem as Shimoni and Antonio with my 4 years old A85.
But sorry, its not a problem of the CCD, cause we all get a clear actual picture on the LCD but just in stitch mode! In any other shooting or playback mode the LCD is dark. So the sensor must be working well and Canon Germany doesnt repair for free. Our failure is different and we have to pay much more than the camera is worth ;-((

Try to calibrate the touch screen. Push and hold the power button on until you see a white dot on the screen. This is the calibration mode. Touch the dot and another dot will apppear, now touch this dot again, keep doing this until the unit reboot.

If you touch the 1st dot and nothing happens then the digitizer on the LCD is dead. If the unit is still under warranty, get a RMA and return it to Garmin.
