Unfortunately it appears the iPhone's GPS chip isn't up to much as we've all suspected. Some people can get it working while many are reporting, like you, that they get drop outs and poor signal strength errors. This is happening accross all the iPhone Sat Nav apps so it points the finger at the GPS chip itself, especially as many of these people are stating they have dedicated tomtoms and the like that work fine. I've tried Copilot, tomtom and others on the iPhone 3GS and none are able to keep signal long enough to be any good. In fact they are a complete waste of money. It's no suprise Tomtom are releasing a cradle for the iPhone which includes a seperate more powerful GPS receiver...

back up (with appbackit from cydia) > Restore > Jailbreak > Unlock > go to cydia INSTALL YOUTUBE PUSH (TO FIX THE GPS FAILURE). > ISNTALL GPS SOFT TOMTOM SYGIC ETC...

use the above order. Doing it you might have better possibility of getting your GPS SIGNAL BETTER AFTER BLACKRA1N.
Remember to set correctly the region where you are. SETTINGS > GENERAL

Iphone is simply sucks!! GPS, Wifi faces the same problem. A china phone is much 2 better in a way... an old cheap nokia phone with builtin gps receiver works way better than the MOST expensive for nothing phone in the world. As always steve job talks big when it comes to his new product.
A frustrated iPhone 4 owner..( feel like smashing it on the concrete floor!!)

I actually work with TomTom on this app, and although the internal GPS is generally sufficient for navigation, it can get poor reception in certain regions or when surround by significant physical barriers such as tall buildings. One solution would be the available car kit, which includes and enhanced GPS chip for greater signal strength. Additionally location of device within a vehicle can also affect signal strength. You want a clear line of sight.

i believe that the flaw i actually the tom tom app, as other software using the gps has no problem at all, i am very dissapointed in the whole look and feel of the app and the poor signal problem is unforgivable, leading to dagerous situatons while driving, my 5 year old gps next to tom tom (3gs) had no problems... not impressed at all..

my tom tom one third edition connects in less than 40 seconds from ca cold start.
first reset everything then connect it to your computer and upload all the needed updates to it( especially the QUICKGPSFIX feature that speeds up the time it takes to connect to satellites.
after that. go outside and wait for the signal to be acquired ( less than 2 minutes)
