Kenmore 10 Sewing Machine

I recently aquired an old Kenmore 10 Portable Sewing Machine - Model #158-1262180 - Series LR 62482. There is no bobbin in the machine, nor any manual - I am unable to thread and my bobbins from my other machines do not work. Can you help with anything? Thanks

All manuals available online. As far as I know, there are only two "thicknesses" of bobbins. Suggest you buy one either thick or thin, and try each.

With any machine, older is better. Only 2 thicknesses exhist - try each.

Lilliane - truly hope you've found help by now.
If you have a bobbin holder, any shop can match the bobbin to it. (PS, Older is Always better, no matter the brand!) And any manual should be available Online. One friend found one ages ago for a late 1800's machine. Or Sears should give you one, gratis. Good luck, and enjoy!

My Dad taught me to clean and repair sewing machines. No clue why. When it comes to oiling any machine, there are Lots of places that need oil. The ones most overlooked are on the Right hand side of the machine, and they Will cause squeeks. Also the hardest to reach. You need to remove the right end plate, and look for anything that moves. Also look on the top, at the right. Those driving belts really need oil.

Um, it's best not to oil belts. The oil deteriorates rubber.

Well, without oiling the right side of the machine, in all Oiling holes, the belt will 'squeek.'

I just loosened the tension on the wheel to fill a bobbin. Now the wheel won't tighten. What do I do?

  • Julia Wood

Tension has nothing to do with winding a bobbin. As far as I know. Only loostening the wheel on the right, outside the large wheel, will facilitate filling a bobbin. Getting old, so I don't bother, just let the needle arm rock up and down as I fill a bobbin. To re-tighten the wheel, crank the small wheel toward you. Righty Tighty, Lefty Loosey. Good luck.

You can try a couple of YouTube videos:

(do not wind the bobbin as fast as he does as it tends to stretch the thread and also could cause the spool to fly off the machine!)

Do you mean the lower bobbin spool? It should not matter too much so long as it fits. Try it on a scrap of material and see how it goes.

Most put the bobbin up top on a post, run the thread from the spool to the bobbin, and then rotate the bobbin by pressing it against a rubber covered wheel while running the sewing machine in normal 'forward' direction.

Bobbin rewinder won't work

it's possible that there is a part inside the machine that could be broken, it would be a good idea to have the machine checked.

Kenmore Sewing Machine model # c877.15

I have a Kenmore as well ,I hope that this will work for you ,too bad that I don't live close to you otherwise I would give a hand. This is the way I fill the bobbin on mine. Mine is located on the top right ,I put the thread into the bobbin hole leaving a small piece of thread hanging for me to hold when I begin the winding, I pull the wheele out to stop the needle from moving while winding, when I am done just push it back in .I run the thread from the spool into the top left it looks like a U turn with a screw go around that without winding just pull it into the bobbin hole. press the foot control and it will begin winding .
