My Sony bravia 40" LCD has developed a thin vertical line to the left center of screen. how to fix?

  • luiscolo Aug 31, 2009

Software upgrade and graphic chip sounds like P.C. talk. Does this also apply to my 40' Sony LCD television? Sony Rep says I might have to replace LCD board (very costly)Do you agree?

Other than a software upgrade. it probably a graphics chip malfunction and will need replacement.

These can be replaced but costly. Does it do the same if you use screen as a pc monitor?

Sony bravia KDL 40s4100 vertical lines on left

LOD (lines of death) are a known service issue with the Sony bravia line of TV's contact Sony and cross your fingers. Wish I had better news for you. I had a 52w4100 and Sony arranged me with a service center to get it taken care of.

Sony bravia led 40" blue

That actually happened to a tv of mine once-i had some clear diet soda get spilled on front, I didn't clean it out(just off of screen) and I corroded the contacts on the lcd itself. if it is a recent problem get it cleaned/clean it yourself as soon as possible to prevent damage to screens connections. hope this was helpful, good luck. I own a 5 year old 40" sony bravia lcd tv, When

This sounds like what I managed to do to my screen, even though I knew better. Is there any chance you layed the screen face down at some time?

Even though you can still watch it OK, you probably have hairline fractures in the screen face (NOT the screen itself- be thankful for that- the cracks are in the screen coating). LCD screens are a very thin glass laminate with a thin protective glass-like coating. When they are laid flat (like I did to connect cables) if the screen bears any weight, microcracks develop on the front of the screen.

I am sorry to say that the effect is permanent.

Sony Bravia KDL-40S2000 thin vertical line

If the line is present in all inputs and modes, there is a problem with the LCD Panel. The only way to fix it is to replace the whole LCD Panel which is very expensive (usually around $1000+ for 40" Sony). Unless the TV in under warranty, it is usually around the same price for a new TV.

Thin vertical line

You are going to find it is a LCD panel problem. I am sure that they will take care of you. But also realize that this could have happen to any brand of LCD panel and you will probably not have any other panel issues once it is fixed.

Sony Bravia XBR 40" LCD

First, HORIZONTAL CENTER.
1) Press MENU.
2) Scroll to SETTINGS.
3) Scroll to SCREEN.
4) Go to HORIZONTAL CENTER. Move the picture to the right. Hopefully, the line will go away. Otherwise, there is a problem with the pixels or the signal processor. Call 1-800-222-SONY. Or, http://eservice.sony.com. Have a high-limit credit card handy for out of warranty repairs. Sorry about that.
