Ipod is locked and will not be recognized by the computer.

I have an ipod video 5g 30gb that recently had the lock code changed, but unfortunately I didn't memorize the lock code before I activated it. ergo i am locked out from what music i had on there. Prior to this, the ipod had developed the annoying habit of not even being recognized by the computer as anything. It was like there was nothing at the end of the cord. still have no idea what caused it, other than possibly an interrupted autosync. a friend of mine looked at it and suggested that the logic board may be messed up. Any help would be great. thanks

I would imagine what your friend told you is correct. The only other thing you can try is to hold down the menu and the middle button for 5 seconds to reset it. Apart from that it would definately be a hardware issue.

Hope this helps

What has happened is the LCD screen on the iPod broke in those places. Its just like breaking a computer screen it doesn't break all of it just parts of it. Here is how to fix it but it will cost a few bucks.

Unlock my ipod

I assume the unlocking your ipod is the combination that locks the screen and not the little white tab on the top of the iPod. By plugging the iPod into itunes it should unlock it. By restoring your iPod you erase the lock but also your music. If may stay unlocked when you remove it from the computer. Good luck.

Unlock my Apple iPod 30GB

From Apple:

----------------------------
Connect your iPod to the primary computer you use it with (the first one iPod synced with), and open iTunes. When you disconnect iPod from the computer, it will no longer be locked. If you can't unlock iPod using either [the code or connecting it to the computer you use to manage its songs]. . . you can restore your iPod to factory settings using iPod Updater. Please note that this will erase all data on your iPod. Afterwards, you can add your music and data back to your iPod. If you want to change the primary computer that your iPod is associated with, do this: 1. Restore your iPod. Warning: The restore process cannot be undone. All of your songs and files will be deleted. Always make a backup of your important data. 2. Connect your iPod to the computer that you want to be the primary computer. 3. Open iTunes and synchronize.----------------------------
