Overscan Problem Hello, I have a problem when playing games with my Xbox 360 set to 1080i on my TV (model: RU-50NZ60). The screen cuts-off on the left side and I'm missing parts of the user interface. I asked around and it seems to be an overscan problem. I would like to know how I can get this fixed? I've looked around for the service menu code but haven't been able to find any. Thanks in advance!

Yes, if you have the original remote and get into the adjustment menu which is hidden you can adjust width, height, and centering if you want.

Depending on your model, this is caused by visual post-processing which may introduce lag. Many LCD diplays have a "game mode" setting make sure this is on when playing your Xbox 360 through this LCD TV. Also, depending on your model of TV, there are motion enhancers (usually proprietary e.g. LG calls its TruMotion) which can also introduce lag; these should be turned off while playing. Another step that should be followed, is to turning off any set video setting in the Xbox's configuration (i.e. turning off any set video output such as 480p, 720p, 1080i, etc.) and setting it to "Optimal Resolution". This should allow for native video output instead of possibly upscaling which would in turn induce lag.

try a different tv set as it could be setting on you tv which is causing the black and white.

Firstly check the system configuration blade on your Xbox 360 startup screen and check your display settings, if you've got an Xbox Elite/New Premium and have HDMI cable then it should be set as Intermediate/1080i/p settings, if you have the component cables then it should all be set as default.

If that isn't the problem and your games are still loading up with a fuzzy screen then there is either something wrong with the cables in your Xbox or your TV can't handle the graphics that the Xbox is producing and you will have to go into display settings and try setting them as either lower settings or higher settings depending on the TV you have.

It will help if you can provide details to me on your TV too, I'm not as good with TV's as I am Videogame Consoles/PC's but it will help me if I want to solve your queries further.

is your xbox set for 1080 p and are you sure your tv can handle 1080p

Most HDTVs cannot properly stretch incoming HD signals, however, if the programme is true HD, you should not much of the image off-screen - most new HDTVs have about 2% overscan and the tickers should be on screen when watched in the appropriate stretch mode.

what HD is your TV? 720p, 1080i, or 1080p? have you tried using all these HD settings?

Ok, I've had the same issue and I was able to fix my problem. I was getting cut off sides in HD mode on my playstation.

I entered the service menu by doing this:

Turn TV Off
Use remote and hit "Mute 1 8 2 Power" (not at the same time, but one after the other)

The TV will come on with the service menu. Enter the 1080i adjustment screen. Write down ALL the values in case you mess up. Adjust the values as necessary to fit your screen. It's sort of like adjusting a computer monitor's image for different resolutions.

Your TV would have to be HD ready and will automatically set itself to 1080i, but if you go into the XBOX 360 console settings' the top menu enables you to change resolution, but if the x box does not recognise 1080i it will not show up. See if 720i shows up as this is still High Def. and also that 60 Hertz is the setting and not 50 hertz
