Brand New Toshiba Laptop Screen won't come on

I have a large Toshiba laptop that I bought a month ago brand new from Best Buy. I was using it the other day and the battery got low and went off. I have tried charging it but the screen will not come on. I can feel the fan running on the computer but nothing is on the screen. I took out the house battery and then put it back in. I heard it click on but the screen is still black.

Took battery out and pressed power button a few times and tried to turn back on. Screen still black. Can still hear fan coming on.

That state might called comatose, during the shut down the battery gone low, so the system is in a hang state, after recharging to its full, then you power it on and the system try to recall the last status, sometimes needs reset and the system will work, other trick is remove the battery and PSU then push power switch several times to drain residual power and attach the battery and turn power on.If this will not work, the bios might be need reset, in this case you must claim your warranty service.

I just bought this brand spankin' new laptop and it has Vista on it... then the MS Office Home/Student 2007 and that kept asking me for a Prod Key... I tried the one on the laptop. Asked my gurus and no...

Ok, first posiibility is that you should have a product key for the Office product and it should be on a small instruction manual or on separete paper that comes with the laptop.
second, if the laptop was previously used or opened(even before you bought it) someone might have activated the Office and the Office that comes with laptops should have 90 or 180 days of use, so if that what happend over that period ago then the Office is just asking for a new key so you can continue to use.
Third posibility, the Office came as an advertisement and you may have that pop up as a reminder to register or buy, still you may find an ignore or remind me later icon.
Best of luck

The power is on, however the screen is so dark I can not see anything on it. My laptop is brand new. I received for Christmas 2010 as a gift. Do I need to buy a whole new screen?

Do you have a gift reciept?
Do you who gave it to you?
ask for the recipt and return it for exchange or refund.

It's brand new, it's supposed to work well when new. It has some kind of warrenty.
Why on earth would you consider spending money to repair it?

Brand new Toshiba 15.6" Satellite C655-S5082 Intel

Sounds like a serious problem with the laptop. Since it's new, I would try to return or exchange the product at the store your bought it at to see if that rectifies the problem.

Without a task bar or icons, you won't be able to go to the recommended restore or recovery console options.

That's why I would recommend that you try to hurry up and get warranty replacement of the product before it's too late.

Good luck on getting a working laptop.

I left my laptop in my car for a few hours. it was an average day.. fair weather. now the color is all screwed up. it still works fine, i'm on it now. it's just the color. how do i fix it? can i fix it...

In case it is a brand new laptop, do not try to repair it yourself as it will void the warranty. Check with the Toshiba Service Center and they might change the screen free of cost or with a nominal charge in case it is in warranty.

Need a new motherboard for Toshiba satalite pro A200, any ideas as to where and how much, also is it worth replacing or buying new, thanks.

Hi there.
If you have a look on Ebay you may be able to get one from there but you have buy a brand new one and they are not cheap to replace, they can be in excess of £200/$375!!! if you bought a second hand one then there could be a chance it won't work meaning you have wasted a lot of money. A replacement motherboard could cost the price of a brand new laptop which would have a years warranty.
I personally would buy a new laptop and sell yours for spares and repairs, at least that would cover some of the cost of a new machine.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

My laptop is asking me to activate windows vista. i put in the code that is on the back of the laptop but it did not work. i bought the laptop just a few weeks ago brand new with everything put on at best...

Go back to best buy, somebody may have already used keygen and used your license key which is why its no good. Microsoft won't help you but simply tell you to go back to where you bought your laptop. I know, that sucks.
