Lost favorites when trying to update

I tried to update my new TomTom one and I lost all my stored favorites. I also tried to do the restore and it did not fix. I tried to store favorites again and the screen freezes and restarts and they are lost again. I am very frustrated and am ready to buy another brand of system. This is my second one of the exact same model, the first one turned off one night and never came back on only after owning it for a few days.

There is no solution, and the manufacturer is not amenable to any news of this.

It used to be possible to remove the mapsettings.cfg file from the TomTom unit's maps before downloading and installing a new map, then to replace the file; however, TomTom changed the coding on the latest maps so that the software no longer recognises the old cfg file. There is a complex workaround where you change your favorites, one by one, into Points of Interest - but it seems pointless having a Favorites item when you have to do this.

Tom Tom discourages any communication of any kind from its customers. I really liked the Tom Tom better than the Garmin I used to own, but I must say that Garmin is much more receptive to customer support. Right now Tom Tom's entire web support is down and there is no way to contact them.

I stopped subscribing to the map update service (so they lost about $100/year) because every time Tom Tom Home updates to a more current map, I lose all my favorites and I travel frequently so I have a bunch of favorites saved. Now I just don't update anything.

The favorites are stored with the map. When you update the map, you overwrite/delete the favorites. Here is the solution... http://www.tomtom.com/support/solution.php?GID=1&PID=1954&SID=0&CID=215&Language=4&FID=5655

I had the same problem when I got my TomTom One. turned out it was a faulty SD card. If you have a spare, copy the contents across to the new card and see if it happens. Meanwhile let TomTom know and they will replace it straight away if you're still under warranty.

Reset the unit by pushing a bent paperclip or pin into the hole on the bottom marked 'reset' turn it back on, plug it in & charge it via USB overnight or as long as you can in the car, make sure the led on the top is green, tap the bottom right of the screen & check the battery symbol on the unit says charging underneath.

If this doesn't help.
contact them about the problem...

Restore favorites

If you have backed up the computer (the entire users folder), your favorites are under users, the name you have for your account, and then favorites. Just copy this list back to the C drive (users, the name you have for your account, and favorites) from your back up. Now all your favorites are back.

The Favourites icon wasn't highlighted when I turned the TomTom on. Eventually by a quirk of fate it came on but I had lost all the data that I had installed (I have a TomTom Go 730)

You have two icons related to Favorites. Add to favorites and Manage favorites. If you did not add a favorite there is nothing to manage. That is why the Manage Favorite icon was greyed.

I am sorry you lost your data, I cannot help you to recover it. Hopefully it is replaceable. Every new gadget needs to be mastred before it can be used efficiently. The best sources of informations are the reading of the manual and playing with the unit.

Iv got an backup issue with my tomtom one.after backup with microsoft windows xp backup and restor software,i wrongfully formated my tom tom one,now when i restor my backup with windows xp...

I do some work with TomTom - it's possible that if something interrupted or went wrong during the install, the map could have been deleted. TomTom is aware of the problem and is working to fix it - if you are map-less, call support (866 486 6866) and we can work on getting you a new map.

Cant reset tom tom

I have now resolved my Tomtom 1 V2 problem (posted 12th Nov 2008).
I emailed Tom tom directly, describing the problem I was having, they responded almost immediately.
Tomtom could not have been any more helpful, the advice they gave me was spot on, and absolutely correct.
Not only did they solve the error I had with my unit, but they made it work much better than it ever had.
Briefly, I was told to join (for free) Tomtom Home, then delete all of the operating system on my satnav and download the latest Tomtom operating system, plus a few other upgraded programs.
I am no computer genius, and admit to being more than a little apprehensive in doing this, but, it could not have been a more straight forward or simple procedure.
As before, my Tomtom now works so much better, faster and with far more features.
Another benefit of being a member of Tomtom Home is that you are offered many products such as map updates at greatly reduced prices.
Regards,
Chris Vince
