I cannot detect my router

Hi,

after 1 year of normal function of my router i woke up yesterday and found out that my laptop cannot detect my router and i cannot connect to it.

I have tried reseting modem, router, both main and laptop computer, i have read about this problem and i just cant fix it.

On my main computer everything is still working fine becouse i have a cable pluged in my router, but on my laptop i cannot detect router.

I think problems are:
1. the router doesnt give any signal
2. my laptop wireless network card is somehow broken

I hope some1 knows any solution.

Ty

All the routers are web based interface and are configured with a web browser, there are few routers which are accessed by name and they are also accessed by their IP address. Check the IP address of your router then you will easily find your router. You can also take the help of free routers detector which can help you to detect your router. A first logical step would be to take your laptop to another wireless location and see if it will work there (you could also take the your wireless unit there to test it). Likewise invite a friend with a wireless enabled machine to visit you and see if they can see your wireless unit. There are three different types of wireless devices in common use A, B, G you need to know which your machine uses and which the wireless receiver uses and assure there is a match. Some devices support multiple types A&G, B&G and A&B&G as long as one matches between the wireless adapter and wireless router/access point assuming the others were not configured off the test should be valid.

Obviously try powering off the router and then back on again.
If no luck check that your internet provider is not currently experiencing any temporary problems.

Well the symptoms indicates that the router is now just a brick. Still I would suggest you to reset the router to default settings using the below steps:

router for 20 seconds (please refer to the label on the bottom of the router for reset button location). Release the reset button after 20 seconds and turn off the router. Turn the router on after few seconds.

If the issue persists then it is time for you to change the router. If the router is still under warranty, then get it replaced through NETGEAR. Contact them at http://my.netgear.com

I have a different router with similar problem but to fix this problem I just shut down the CPU and the router, then I waited a minute or 2 so it would reset and when I turned it back on everything woked fine. could be as easy as clicking on the repair internet connection icon so it will rest IP, but you may have already tried that. Good luck

1 of the 2 computers cant get online

Pleaase check if the PC connects when plugged directly to the DSL or cable connection whatever you have without the router in between. That would ensure the functionality of the ethernet card on the other pc.

Have you tried switching channels in the router I have seen suggestions to use challen 1 or 11 instead of the often defaulted 6. You may have increased traffic from your neighbors and non-it devices like wireless phones.
