Hi, The first thing to do is troubleshoot your TV independent to any other service provider that has a box that probably connects to your TV via a HDMI cable or old version scart.
Simply turn off your TV and turn off the socket that the TV is plugged in for 20 mins. Also turn of any Virgin media boxes.
After 20 mins turn on the TV. Do not worry if you get a message saying no signal detected. Wait and see if the TV stays on with no messages such as auto-standby. If the TV remains on with no problems then turn on your Virgin Media Box. The box will need to initialise ( about 30 seconds ) and then the TV should recognise the HDMI signal and you will see the Virgin TV.
If your TV turns off at any point during this process you have a fault with the TV, If when you turn on the Virgin box and no signal is detected you have either a cable connection problem or a Virgin Box problem, so using your TV REMOTE turn your TV back to ARIEL input to receive the normal television broadcasts via your Ariel that give you the normal freeview television that all modern TV's can receive, if you can get the normal reception contact virgin support who will troubleshoot your problem.
Im a cable tech for the largest cable company in the US. However looked at the images of the box you are talking about and it hooks up via HDMI cord. If they shipped the box to you it should have came with this cord looks kind of like a USB cord. The HDMI has fiber lines inside that will carry audio and video in HD "high definition" as well as SD "standard definition" The link provided should help. Installing your kit yourself Discover Virgin Media
Tuning of the TV not required when using scart lead, just select external input that the scartis connected to, ie AV1,AV2 (EXT1,EXT2) etc. The problem is possibly to do with the Virgin box, it may be set to HDMI out in which case it will not output anything via the scart lead, you would need to connect via an HDMI lead (small socket on the rear of the unit looks a little like a USB socket). Problem is if your TV is a CRT television its unlikely to have this socket. Your Virgin box can be reset to output via the scart but you would need to contact Virgin for this process.
I , would try using another ( alternative connection) from your humax , say the scart cable just to see if it , the humax is ok. then if tv has more than 1 hdmi skt try it too, if still not working retry upgrade firmware route
You should try this way. Unplug the box and replace by DVD player or others with HDMI output and turn/on off to see the TV keeps changing HDMI sources or not. If it is changed, you have to call service to replace the main board. Else, your TV works well.
I had the same problem so I moved the virgin media box to behind the LG TV. Problem solved as an infra red sent out by the TV on power up doesnt affect the digibox anymore.. ;0)
One of a few things are happening. If you are connected to the TV via the HDMI port and it doesn't become highlighted then either the main board on the TV is at fault, the HDMI output on the media box is not working (try on another TV if possible) or the HDMI cable itself is bad.
You should not have to tune into HD, you should be connected via a HDMI connector from the Virgin box to theTV, which means you only need to select the HDMI input source & then select your channels fron the Virgin box.
I have the same TV & I've tried connecting it through "component" & the DVI but neither work & a Virgin media tech says only an HD TV will work 'the boxdoesn't recognise component
