Hi, What external flash did you use on your Canon 60D? The internal flash will not automatically pop up if in the "Creative Zone" it will pop up with the button in the creative zones (M, AV, TV and P) it will not pop up with the button if you are in the the full auto mode (that's the little green box mode) but, should pop up automatically if required. The flash should pop up automatically in the basic zone for Portrait, close up and night photography, the button won't activate (pop up) the flash. Also the internal flash will not pop up if there is an accessory in the hot shoe. Again what external flash was it you used and did it flash?
All you need to do is set the camera to shutter priority other non-automatic mode, hold the flash shut and hold the flash button next to the lens opening. You'll hear a motor and a click and it should latch shut.
Your camera has a built-in flash and it will pop up automatically in low light or backlit conditions if you are in Basic Zone.
All you have to do is push it back down.
If you set your camera option to P, only the shutter speed and aperture are set. You can then change settings for your flash and other functions.
Be aware that the built in flash does not pop up automatically in all picture modes. Try it when in the different modes (on the mode dial) and see what I mean. Does it popo up when manually opened ?, (small button on front left hand side of the viewing pentaprism/flash housing.)
Flash will automatically pop out only in AUTO mode, if the camera needs some additional lightning. In manual modes, you should use the flash button located at the left down side of the flash compartment, to manually force the flash to pop up
The openning flash button only works on non automatic shooting modes. On creative zone (automatic options with predefined options) the flash will rise automatically, based on the current exposure conditions. On "Flash Off" mode won't rise the flash ever. Let me know, please if it solve the problem
I found the answer and fixed my flash. Look on http://photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=00ODWf
This
will describe how, if you have been using a speedlite alot, than the
little tab under the shutter release side of the hot shoe can get bent
down thus constantly pressing down (toward the bottom of the camera)
the small button which deactivates the pop-up
flash even when the speedlite is not attached. Just bend the tab up a
little with a jewler's screwdriver, turn the camera off and on and
voila!! Fixed!!! Dan describes pushing the tab down, but on the xti,
the tab needs to be bent up to release the flash deactivation switch
and fix the problem. Thanks to Dan D on photonet for saving me a
service call.
Without more information, it sounds like the flash may be set to a manual mode. Try setting the flash to an auto mode. The display should indicate something to the effect of "E-TTL" or maybe just "TTL". The reason your images are blurry, would be due to a slow shutter speed being used on the camera. If your flash is not set to trigger automatically, then the camera will use the slowest shutter speed to acheive the proper exposure of the image. My assumption would be that if you were to take two images back-to-back with the speedlight set to your current setting, one with the speedlight the other with the pop-up flash, the latter would not be blurry. Hope this helps.
your flash is acting to 'fill' for you. fill lighting can be a benefit. if you don't want it, see settings menu to turn off flash until you need it. not difficult and worth knowing how to make simple routine setting adjustments. good luck mark
Using the flash
When shooting with the built-in flash, open the flash manually. The flash does not pop-up automatically.
The flash will not fire if it is closed.
The flash will work when it is opened up.
When the flash is open, the (flash on) icon or (automatic) icon will appear on the LCD monitor (or in the viewfinder).
Flash on: The flash fires in every shot.
Automatic: The flash fires automatically.
Press the (flash) button to switch between the and flash modes while the flash is open.
In some shooting modes, the flash mode does not switch even if the flash button is pressed. Please refer to Functions Available in Each Shooting Mode in the Camera User Guide provided with your camera for more information.
When you are not using the flash, close it manually.
When the flash is closed, the flash will not fire and the icon appears on the LCD monitor (or in the viewfinder).
