Canon PowerShor S3 not functioning

Starting receiving error message "Lens error Restart camera". Restarting camera does not correct error. Camera will not connect to PC via USB.
Basically turns on, shows error, turns itself off.
I have read several threads regarding the "F18" error on several other Canon digitals, however, the S3 is not listed as an affected unit. Do you know if this is the same problem? Bought the camera for my wife last year and she loves it, but if this problem is endemic to the Canons I don't want to buy another-any suggeations?
Thanks for your help.

Lens will not extend and Lens error restart camera appears. This does not help.

Similar problem, lens error message. Camera will take pictures but will not review or download. Tried restarting, removing batteries, etc. but no luck. Camera is past it's warranty date by approximately 6 months. I'll try compressed air next. Hope I can resolve the problem as the camera is otherwise great.

I was recently out of the country and my camera started doing the same thing. Seemed like it was mostly when I tried to to zoom that I got the lens error message, but occasionally I'd get the message no matter what. I bought the camera in May.

Had my S2 IS now for 3 years , never had a problem with the lens. I'm careful not to bump my lens into anything. I actually bought the lens hood and put a filter on my lens so that no dirt can get into my lens or I can't accidentally bump my lens into anything while i'm using it as it's protected by the adapter and filter.

I have an IXY 110. how do i restart the camera?

I'm guessing that you're asking because your receiving a "lens error, restart camera" message. Unfortunately, restarting the camera (turning it off and back on again) rarely corrects the problem. Many cameras that fall prey to lens error problems can only be corrected by professional repair. But, here are some last resort troubleshooting steps that you can try that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try.

You may find it more cost effective to purchase a new camera as opposed to the repair price on your current camera.

Lens Error. Restart Camera. Camera gives this error message and then shuts off. I can't access photos or function buttons. What can I do?

Press the "MENU" button and navigate to the reset command and reset the camera. That may get the camera to function properly.

Lens won't retract

This is probably THE most common failure among digital cameras. There's a halfway chance of fixing it yourself, described here: http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html
