If you do a lot of bends or use a whammy bar this will happen a lot. The best way to keep a guitar in tune is to buy a locking system to put on it. I use a floyd locking system for my own guitar.

Tell her to tune all strings below the pitch and always go up to the pitch, never down because of slack in the tuning keys. The gears will have a slight bit of play in them. If coming down and stopping at the right place, they will loosen and loose tuning when she lets go. Tuning from below and go up to the pitch will correct that. (more noticeable on electric) Also, I would take it to a shop to have the intonation checked and tuned if necessary.
This may be strictly magnetic pickup from nearby sources of transformers, ballasts or other motors that generate these magnetic fields. Humbucker pickups have hum cancelling windings that PARTIALLY remove the hum. Wires from pickups to other components should be twisted to help cancel the problem.
I am not familiar with your model of guitar, but I assume it has a tremelo system. Usually when a string breaks at the nut like that, it's because the metal piece that locks the string is not smooth, has a burr on it. It could also be that the lock is holding just well enough that when you bend a string it is slipping some but doesn't go back all the way. Try just totally unlocking it and playing a bit to see what happens. The friction may be wearing on the string where it contacts the lock. I am assuming it is breaking near the nut/lock area, is that right? Or is it breaking at the bridge end?
The Schecter C1 Fr Hellraiser comes with EMG active pickups I believe, did you try replacing the battery? Also unscrew the ends of your 1/4 inch instrument cable and make sure they are soldered properly. I am assuming you are going straight to your amp, not through any pedals?
Yes, you can install a Floyd Rose later, but it will cost you more to buy one later and install than if you were to purchase the Schecter with it already installed. A Floyd Rose bridge with trem can cost between $40.00 for a used one, to $80.00, or even higher, depending on the features you want. If you need it installed for you, you are looking at another $50.00 to $100.00 potentially.
If you are unable to purchase the one without the Floyd Rose bridge because the cost is a bit out of your reach, don't worry. Schecter C-1 guitars are well made and sound very nice, and you would still have a really nice guitar. I have owned two Schecters , and still kick myself for having sold them to "upgrade" to a Gibson Les Paul Standard. Just because it reads Gibson on the headstock, doesn't necessarily mean it's a better guitar. To prove that, check out reviews on Harmony Central sometime (www.harmony-central.com) and see how many people are displeased with their Gibsons, and how many are pleased with their Schecters.
But you don't have to worry about installation of a FL bridge later, as they fit exactly where the standard bridge and stop tailpiece are fitted.
