Thanks Telly Head But that may be a little over my head... Oh... it is purple and green double vision BTW... A TV repair guy said (on the phone) that he thought it was a conversion chip(s) Wanted $100 to come out...$140 to Fix plus $125 for parts...
So.. I give you the first $100 For what? LOL

Most likely you have a Green CRT that is failing. Sony no longer stocks the CRT assemblies for most of the older Projection sets. Instead what is required is to send the Green CRT assembly back to Sony (minus the Delta Lens), so they can replace the Tube on the Optical Coupler. This is a major cost of about 400.00 to 500.00 for the CRT plus the the tear down and reassembly time. Then you need to do a major Convergence alignment because the other two CRTs are aligned to the Green CRT. Due to the cost and the fact that Sony will not be supporting the older sets much longer, I would not invest the money into it.
I hope this helps,

There may be several causes but, one is that when any color gun is being over driven, the Sony shuts down the gun to protect it. Try this. Remove the front of the set by removing the two screws from each lower corner. Next remove the black panel held on by 5 or 6 screws. Now you should see a panel with 6 potentiometers on it. Turning the ones on the bottom row CCW reduces the drive. Turn the color down and if all the guns stay lit, SLOWLY turn them up until you get the color balance that you like.
you have a shorted green CRT that is affecting the other crts the short is internat to the crt that leaves what is called retrace lines. if the set is more than three years old then replace all three guns.
Convergence IC's should be replaced before any alignment is

It looks like your green CRT is malfunctioning. You should try to see if the voltages are correct on the socket of the green CRT and check the high voltage on the green CRT using a high voltage probe. Use a schematic diagram to reference these voltages to.
I am positive that the problem is the green CRT or the circuitry leading to the green CRT. Please use caution when checking these voltages.
Turn the set on without an antenna, so there is only snow on the screen. Measure the 3 cathode voltages at the CRT, red green and blue. If the 3 voltages are about the same, around 175 volts, then the CRT is bad (purple picture means bad green gun). If the red and blue are around 175 and the green is over 200 volts, then there is a chassis problem, usually the video output transistor itself has gone bad or come loose.
