I recently gave my parents a Samsung BD-P1600. I specifically gave them that player because I have the same one, and though this would help me troubleshoot any problems they might have.
The player is Netflix compatible- after you purchase a Samsung WIS09ABGN LinkStick Wireless LAN Adapter for an additional $80. :P Setting up the wireless connection was a nightmare, both on my system and on theirs. I frequently have to reselect my wireless network, reenter the password, and run connection tests.
There was recently a firmware (I believe) update offered. It appeared on the screen and my father downloaded and installed it. After doing this, he could no longer connect to Netflix. I assumed that it just reset his connection or something and I went over the entire process on the phone with him, to no avail.
So on this player, there is a connection test thing. It tests your gateway, pings some stuff, checks your IPs, etc. Forgive the completely non-technical explanation. When I do this on my system (and when I previously did it on theirs) it would run down the list and stop at the one that didn't work, so you'd know what was wrong. But now, on my parents system, it no longer goes down any part of the list, and instead just says "Testing network" at the bottom of the screen indefinitely.
This is a pretty specific problem and I believe it's gonna take someone who has direct experience with this player to solve it. Does anyone out there have this same player -or- have any of you seen reference to this specific problem on any forums?
Please help! My dad needs his movies! :D Thanks!!!
First check the securty settings on the router. Most of these units use 64 bit/128bit configurations. Just this little change can make things work. Try changeing the security to 64/bit encription.
Let me know how this does.
Btw, I’m available to help over the phone in case u need at https://www.6ya.com/expert/edwy_1a56970cf1ea4620
A few things to try:
Disable the firewall on the router.
Try using a wired connection directly to the router.
If you are using an Airport Express router, that can cause a ton of difficulties. Switch to Netgear wireless router.
Be sure DHCP is set to on & HNS to auto.
The network name should contain letters only (no numbers, spaces or special characters)
Under the 'Network' section of the Setup menu, select "Cable" rather than "Wireless" even though you are using wireless.
Hope this helps you. Good luck!
Testimonial: "Great solution, thanks! I finally got it to work on my own, but I'm sure this advice will be helpful to others in the same situation."
I am researching the lan adapters et al, and in doing so came across this problem on another site. The individual stated he read somewhere that the lan adapter has difficulty if the wifi passcode has any spaces, or characters other than alpha in it. Perhaps the passcode they used is causing the problem?
