Help! My compaq laptop cq 60 is 2 mos. old and has a problem. tells me plugged in but battery not charging.the adapter is lite up etc.. yet battery isnt charging. then on occassion it will start charging. i have no clue here. please help!
I had the same problem on my CQ60. HP battery test showed one or more cells not working. After spending about 2 hours talking to some guy in India,or somewhere, he came to the conclusion that my battery was bad. HP sent me a new battery, which fixed the problem.

My laptop stopped charging at 16% and showed power plugged sign and light showing at the plug terminal but no charging
I have a Compaq Presario CQ20 my original battery is going low so I buy a new battery. When I using new battery it show plugged in, not charging. But when I use old one it is charging. Please help me to solve the problems.
Your adapter requires replacement if still in warranty. If you are keen on fixing it, easy way is - replace the wire that connects adapter to laptop, or if you are super handy with soldering - remove the plastic on connector- it will be unusable plastic cover after this removal. You will see that the white wire has connection broken. Desolder the old bit of solder on wire. Put new solder to connect back to its pole. Now plug in the connector to your laptop charging port. Voila! Your battery is plugged in and charging.
true then and true now 10 years later.
always have 2 batteries, not 1.
then all the what is wrong ends.
I buy fresh one every year from my long vacations. 30days. some way off the grid too.

Lots of "fake" batteries in market. These are bad ones shipped by clever vendors who buy factory rejects and sell then at discounted price. Better to buy battery from original manufacturer of the Laprop.
The problem could also be the power cord. A friend of mine was
complaining her HP CQ60 wouldn't charge unless she jiggled the plug
connection at the laptop. She thought it was the battery and ordered
another one but found it was still not charging correctly. I looked at
it and confirmed that the cord had one loose connection at the barrel
plug.
If it is the power cord you could purchase a new one or repair it like I did below:
The cord can be fixed by slicing a concentric circle around the plug
about a 1/2 inch down from the rubber end and then peeling it off to
expose the two wires. I found one wire broken from the solder joint and
thus not getting a good connection. I drilled a small hole into the
metal barrel to make a better contact and then re-soldered the wire into
the hole. I then super glued the concentric section I sliced off and
then put a piece of 1/2" 2:1 heat shrink tubing ($1.25 on eBay) around
it and shrank it around the repair. It's fixed and due to the black heat
shrink tubing, you can barely tell it was repaired. Hope this helps!
Cable from AC adapter to PC is damaged or solder junctions of DC-In connector on the motherboard is cracked, or faulty DC-In connector. Is Power LED on the laptop is on as well as LED on adapter when battery is NOT charging?
