Bought my originally Motorola Q off Ebay a little while ago used and the camera worked fine, but recently, the camera has started acting up. For whatever reason whenever I start it up I can get it to work, but the picture comes back all weird looking. There will be huge fluctuations in color and distortion. Anyone have any idea what's going on and how to fix it?

Almost all early Quantaray lenses (and Sigma lenses, Sigma made Quantaray) in the Canon EOS mount will show error messages on Canon digital cameras (but still work fine on older EOS film cameras). usually err99 but err01 also. There is no DIY fix and Sigma ran out of update parts years ago. Current production lenses and Canon made lenses will not have this problem. This lens would only work for someone shooting EOS film cameras with no intention of "upgrading" their system to digital Canon cameras in the future.
It means the camera has detected that the battery is not genuine or not compatible. sony batteries has the data chip that provides the 'info' in infolithium.
you can't really get around the fact that digital cameras create a heavy strain on batteries. rechargables are the only way to go with them. now about the chinese battery. the voltage may be fine but that is not under load (being in the camera during operation) so it's deceptive about the voltage.
I would return it and get a new one, and if that doesnt work then buy a different one because these ****. I am stuck with mine, but I wouldnt suggest it to anyone...
well, i just chcked my camera, and you have the right type....it could be the battery is just bad, though i don't know how to check this without trying it in another camera.
Not the camera obviously - works OK
Replace the NiMah batteries- get several sets and keep one set in the bag charged with one set in the camera.
You may be able to 'refresh' the original batteries by putting them into a small flashlight and running them until the bulb goes out.
This discharges them completely- then recharge.
It is said batteries have a 'memory' so that a battery that is down say 50% and recharged will only recharge that 50% and the other 50% is lost for use. So you have to flatten the batteries completely
