I have an hp deskjet 6540 printer, when i plugged in the power the green light indicator at the end of the power adapter turns on but turns off after a few seconds and the printer doesn't turn on.this happened when i tried to turn on the printer after almost 3 months of not using it
This printer have a problem on HP circuit board. Usually its grounded due to ink waste, or not using it like what you said it took about three months. Here is a tip if your printer HP is still under warranty then you can send or contact to HP Center or the one you buy from it. To be sure that your printer is working back normally.
Good luck!
There is a problem with the power outlet socket: the adapter shoe does not fit tightly inside. Try plugging the adapter in another power outlet and hold firmly.
Printers do not 'age' if not used for a few months. Try another power cable and then another adapter.
Try a replacement power cable (the one that connects the adapter to the printer).
If you find that your printer is damaged then I suggest you buy a new one.
The deskjet series is more of a 'disposable' type. It can be repaired, however, but not without creating future trouble.
My advice: get a new one!
Thank you for using fixya!

thanks adnanbhatti for the reply. the green light on the end of the power adapter only turns off if it is connected to the printer. if not, it doesn't turn off.
thanks yboyandrei. its no longer under warranty so i guess its for replacement already?
