SOURCE: Always dispenses CRUSHED ice
try removing the ice bucket, and on the back wall is a hole approx 1.5 inches square that the brass bar attached to the rear of ice container inserts into,(you may have to put hte container back in partilaly to look under and watch where it slides into) inside thatcut-out is a plunger that slides up and down activating the crushed/cubed option.you can sick you finger in the hole you should seee a plastic hoop that would catch the brasss bar.Try pushing and pulling hte hoop up and down if it does not move freely, youll need to replace the solenoid assy. if it does, then pull allthe way to the lowest positon and make sure when replacing the ice container that the bar falls with in the hoop itself
SOURCE: ice won't dispense, no power to water light
I would check hte wire harness leadngto the door under hte freezer hinge. itll be wrapped in a black web like covering. Just under hte unit itself follow ht ewire and unplug hte harness. then carfully cut hte black webbing and inspect wires. there tends ot be apinch point there and the wires will sheer from one another, . if so there is no replcing hte harness, the door would have to be replaced at a cost of nealry $600. not enough room for a wire nut, but hav had sucess using stright inline bullet style connector, or others have sucessfully soldered connections back in place
SOURCE: icemaker only dispenses crushed ice, not cubes
There is an opening next to the auger that dispenses the ice. In there there is a lever that must move up and down. It actually seats the metal rod on the bottom of the ice maker and controls cube or crushed. Make sure the lever is down (cube position) when you return the basket to the freezer. I had to hold it down while I slid the rod into the opening. Viola! Cubes again.

More than likely, your water line is freezing up in the door. You can remove all of the ice cubes and lower the freezer temp to about 3. Leave the freezer door open for about 5 minutes or so and if this does not work, leave the door open a little longer. Also, disconnect the water line at the base of the freezer door, near the floor, and press the dispenser lever. If you have water there, you most likely have a frozen line in the door. Changing the water filter often will help but it is not the answer and is can get quite expensive. By the way, Make sure to hold the dispenser lever forward for at least a couple of minutes each time you test for water flow. If you do not get water at the connector at the base of the door after you have disconnected the line, you have a problem with the valve in the back of the refrigerator.

You may not need to replace the solenoid. If you hear the hum, and not a loud click and don't see then rod move, it may be frozen with ice. Test it manually with your hand, it should be free to move up and down. If not, then it is frozen with ice. Remove the ice dispenser and let it thaw and dry out. You should then be able to move to rod and it will work fine, at least until it freezes again. Anyone know how to prevent it from freezing up? Its a continual problem for me
