Have decimal mode set to 2. Enter 1.28 get 1.'divide sign'T

You need to be in add mode, and have 2 decimal places selected for the result.
To change to add mode, make sure the 'K . A' switch is in the 'A' position. To get 2 decimal places in the answer, move the selector in the 'F 6 3 2 1 0' switch to the '2' position.

you can also go press the 'mode' button, and go down until you're at 'Exact/Approx' and choose '3: Approximate'

You have to make sure that the third set of buttons wit the K*A is set to A and the 5th set of buttons is on the 2.

Are you using a ti-89? If so, check your mode settings and change Exact to Approximate.

To change from fraction to decimal, all it takes is a keypress. (change key)
.Not all decimal results (approximations) will be converted to fractions.
Anyway, if you want to set the calculator to display decimal results only,
Press SETUP
Press 2:EDITOR
Select 1:LINE.
