I have a Hotpoint Aqualtis AQ9D692S. It turns on, I can select programs but when I press start the door locks and there's another click. Then nothing. If I unplug it and leave it for a while it will then work for a few weeks before doing it again. Any ideas?

Try turning off the power at the mains plug. If that doesn't work, you need a new catch.

F06 Door lock fault
Issue: Washing machine door cannot be opened or closed / when the door is closed the machine the programme will not start.
Advice: If your washing machine door will not close, please check for any obstructions in the door lock.

Yea most Aqualtis' have a door release tab behind the kickplate.

The door lock is thermal, so simply switching off doesnt work.
Switch off at the power point for at least 10 min.
If still no good, replace the interlock.

It could be you opened the door before it had fully completed a program, and then turned it off. My Hotpoint machine has to be reset in these circumstances otherwise the next time it is turned on, it appears to let you select a different program but when you close the door resumes the program it was running when it was interrupted.

You don't say which model you have, so I cant give you a definitive answer, but you could try the following sequence which works on my Hotpoint:

1. Open door and switch machine on.2. Press and hold down the P button for several seconds until it gives a series of beeps (mine = 3 beeps).3. Release P button.4. Select the program you want in the usual way using the P button.5. Close door, and the machine should then run the selected program.

remove the front kick strip, on the LHS you will notice a yellow tag. with the power on on the machine pull down twice gently on this tab. this should unlock the door.

if you now notice the drum is full of water its more than likely your filter is blocked and this is what caused the door not to open.

Have you selected a program? Is water available? You haven't selected delay?
Then I suspect it may be a faulty door sensor, it wont start if it thinks the door is not shut. Try opening and reshutting the door.

Firstly, lets start simple. Have you noticed the door lever/handle has got "floppy"? or loose? or easy to squeeze?
This is the most common reason, what happens is there are 2 bits of spring steel behind the handle, these either break or become weak, to test this theory, close the door, put your finger between the handle and the door and push the handle towards the glass, if this works then you need a new spring/handle.

problem may just be that drum is not turning so you think program is stopped. try cancelling and select spin program and see if you get spin
