Has new carb and sparkplug, still hard to start a d won't stay running
OK, I am NOT a knowledgeable mechanic, but I do not hesitate to pull things apart and put them back together so this is just a shot in the dark and may be totally useless. Since you have replaced the carb and sparkplug I assume this is not a new machine. Have you often run it at lower speeds, maybe for better control or just to reduce noise? A friend of mine had a gas trimmer that he always ran at lower speeds because he liked to do his yard early in the morning and wanted to keep the noise down. His trimmer had similar symptoms. When he took it in for repair they told him the spark arrestor, a screen on the exhaust system was clogged with carbon buildup from running at low speeds, which results in less efficient fuel burning, leading to excess carbon on the spark arrester. The carbon buildup restricts the exhaust and winds up impairing ignition. So the engine will start briefly then suffocate and stop. You can try removing the exhaust cowling, remove the screws holding the spark arrester in place, and scrubbing the carbon from the back side of the screen with a wire brush to clean the little holes. That may not be the final answer, but it is not too difficult, and may do the job. Please post a reply if this helps.
