Question about Frigidaire Refrigerators

1 Answer

Frigidaire gallery fridge SY EF code, I've read alot of post on this matter but mine seems to be another issue. Today the fridge freezer was @ 3°f, sy ef popped up while I was there, I immediately unplugged fridge waited 30 sec plugged back in, freezer temp read 22°f. I replaced main control board yesterday. Also b4 I replaced control board I did the ef test where i would run in lo and hi. Manual says fan will run a min of 10 sec. Mine would run 2or 3 cut off off then another 2 or 3 sec. I didnt replace fan originally bc I've opened freezer and held door switch and heard it running fine.

First thing to do is unplug your unit for one hour and then plug it back in to see if the control board will reset itself. If you are still getting the SY EF error codes then you will need to replace the controller board

SOURCE: On the freezer and fridge

There is either something wrong with the fan or the computer. But the only thing you can do is go through the owners manual if you can't correct it with that you will have to call for warranty service. If you go any further then that you will void the warranty.

The short answer is that EF on the Electrolux refrigerator digital display means "evaporator fan." The long answer is, it doesn't necessarily mean there is something wrong with your Electrolux refrigerator.

Hope helps.

NOTE: This
is a multi-solution answer since I don't have all the tech from your question to pinpoint your problem
But the solution is in here generically, if you read and study the solutions very, very carefully.
First I would check cold control. Thats where you turn it off, if your temp is not warm. it can
be defective and not shutting off. If your temp is warm proceed with the following.
I would check the fan in the freezer. Listen to see if it is running
It moves air to the ref from the freezer
Then check to see if FREEZER CONTROL is turned warmer which makes REF. colder or vice versa.
Also this might be a common Defrost problem, Ice
is not being melted by the defrost system. The fan can't blow through the coils into the fridge.
Take out back panel of freezer to check for ice buildup. The coils should be clean.
There are three components to a defrost system- a heater, heater thermostat, and a timer unless you have a defrost electronic card.
Its best handled by a Technician but you could possibly do it by taking your model number to the nearest appliance parts store and asking for the parts. They are mostly located in freezer ,behind back panel on freezer coils.except the card which is usually located in ref The parts store will have info
Also check fan undernearh Ref in the rear
Clean condenser coils underneath
Make sure back cover is on the fridge. Some take them off and throw them away.
make one out of cardboard if its gone, using the holes of the old one.

SOURCE: My Frigidaire Gallery refrigerator showing HI temp.and with code5Y and EF, what does it mean?

An EF code is indicative of an Evaporator Fan Circuit Failure. Can it be stopped by ice or frost? Absolutely. Press the freezer up button and the freezer down button simultaneously for 6-8 seconds and you will enter a test mode. Every time you press the fresh food button after entering the test you will advance to the next test. They are not in numerical order. Go to test 26 (The defrost circuit test) and it will show CL for closed or OP for open. If it shows OP you have a defrost issue. If CL there is no defrost problem. Next go to test 15 - keeping in mind they ( the tests are Not in numerical order). When you get to 15 press the main power on/off button. The 1st time you press it the display will show LO and the fan should be on low speed. The next time you press the power button it will show HI, and the fan should be on high. It is a twelve vdc fan motor wire colors red, yellow, brown, and blue. They originate at the j6a and j4a connectors. If the fan does not come on in the test the check will be made at the control. There should always be 12vdc between brown and red, and there should be 9 - 12 vdc between brown and yellow in the test. The blue wire is a tach wire and feeds info back to the lower control which is located behind the kick plate underneath the unit. EX factory service 22 years currently an instructor. If you are not equipped with the proper tools and or knowledge please call a competent technician. KEEP IT SIMPLE

Frigidaire fridge model FGUN2642LF6 fridge is not working. Code displays sy and ef, what is wrong

Your evaporator fan is not spinning.

Check to make sure there isn't any ice build up jamming up the fan. If there isn't then it's either the evaporator fan, or the main board.

My refrigerator is not keeping temp and there is a code on the water/ice machine reads S(or 5)y EF. What does this code indicate?

If I'm not mistaken EF error code stands for Evaporator Fan which is the fan motor in the back of the freezer section. That would explain the noise you heard. The fan could possibly be frozen or stuck or the motor actually went bad and needs replaced. Without that fan running you will get very little cooling.

Throwing code --sy ce

Thank you for your post, Friend.

Typically error code SY CE, indicates an issue between the main control board and the user interface (the control on the Freezer door). A tech would typically check the communication wiring wires between both parts to determine the cause of the error code. If the wiring is correct, then more than likely you are looking at a faulty main control board or user interface. Regrettably, this is not a simple DIY job. I would highly recommend reaching out to an expert technician to ensure the appropriate replacement part is ordered and is installed correctly to prevent future issues. I hope this information helps to some degree - thanks for your question, and please do not hesitate to reconnect. - Z

What does the error code 5y EF mean on my Frigidaire refrigerator

Good Morning Friend,

I understand you are receiving an "SY EF" code on your Frigidaire refrigerator, model# FRS3R5EMB. The "SY EF" code stands for system error with the evaporator fan. This possibly means that there is something going on with your evaporator fan or it could possibly be a false error code. . I suggest resetting your appliance, by either unplugging it or shutting the power off at your home's circuit breaker, for 3-5 minutes. I ask that you please follow up with a comment on the post, at your convenience, to advise if further troubleshooting is needed or if your appliances status has changed successfully.

Good Afternoon Friend,

I understand you are receiving an SY EF code on your Frigidaire refrigerator, model# FGUN2642LF. This code states there is a system error code that deals with the evaporator fan. This could also be a possible false error code. I suggest you reset your appliance, by either unplugging it or shutting the power off at your home's circuit breaker, for 3-5 minutes. Once power is restored, you will need to press the "Mute Sounds" button to stop the power failure alert. I ask that you please follow up with a comment on the post, at your convenience, to advise if further troubleshooting is needed or if your refrigerator status has changed successfully. Frigidaire SY CF issues

Good Morning Jack, thank you for your question!

Typically error code SY CF indicates that your refrigerator has detected a communication failure after power up. The error code may possibly continue after replacing the part you have ordered. With this error code, a professional would need to check wiring between the main control board and user interface board. After proper diagnoses and if the error continues, the main control board may need replacing. Hope this information helps to some degree!
