Some ice makers will take up to hours to produce the first time, but without the refrigerator model number and more of the story, giving you the correct information is difficult.

SOURCE: We own a RF267AARS/XXA refrigerator.

You'll have to read my in depth review on Epinions.com for answers. Sounds like you bought the updated version that over corrects the "too much" ice which jams the mechanism to where it breaks the unit. This is my second friggen Samsung as my 1st 4 door quatro was replaced under their lemon law. Spending $2500 I thought I was buying quaility, instead I bought greif. I'm still working with Best Buy to get Samsung to fix the icemaker with it's current problem which sounds like yours. Go to the Epinions website and look me up, my username is "walkerpkw" My review was posted last year. Read both my horrifying Samsung reviews. Something is very wrong with their engineering department. You'll find my email address on my profile page. I'd be happy to inform you if the get this fixed. I'm told it's the fridges computer board and they're redisigning another?

SOURCE: ICE MAKER QUIT MAKING ICE ON MY WHIRLPOOL FRIDGE

I had a Whirlpool Model GD5SHAXNS in which the icemaker quit working about the same time (3 years old). I had water out the dispenser, I found that it was the icemaker itself failed not calling for water to fill it. I replaced it with a icemaker on-line for about $100 and problem fixed. I have been told his is a common problem with the icemaker in this model ref.

SOURCE: Whirlpool Gold Ice maker doesn't work

You definitely have something wrong with the ice maker if the water has turned to ice Schmerold. And the IM is not harvesting. The way it works is the IM needs 28 degrees F to harvest. If the coils below in the condenser are dirty the IM won't try to harvest. The Ice Mold thermostat is mounted on the firewall of the Ice mold in its own little cubby whole. To access it you will need to remove the head. Then remove the shell separating the Ice mold from the heads housing. There you will find the ice mold thermostat. It's only function is to get it on. If the temperature is right in the freezer. To test this precious thermostat one needs only to stick it into a freezer and let it hang out for an hour or so. Then grab it and check it for continuity. If it is open it has failed and belongs in the file 13. It is easily replaced and inexpensive.
On your model, ice maker operation is controlled by an optical sensor mounted on both sides of the freezer liner. The usual failure of this model is a bad emitter board, located in one of these recesses. You may view the service instructions for checking this sensor.

I purchased a LG 24cu ft French door fridge, manual says it takes 12-24 hr to make ice. When I hooked up the water should it have filled the icemaker or will it do that after the 12/24 hr period?

it will take about 12-24 hrs for the unit to be at the controlled temperature that you want -during that time it will be be trying to make ice if you have water hook up turn on the ice maker -but it will take awhile since the unit wont be at temp for the ice to form and accumulate

Ice machine not making the ice

Almost all ice makers have a on/off switch. I did not see in your answer that you did not checked it.
Assuming the switch is in on, in most ice makers there is an electrical plug that provides power to the ice maker. To check this plug you typically have to remove a couple of screws that anchor the ice maker to the cabinet. After removing these screws, lift out the ice maker until you can see the plug. If it is not plugged in, plug it in.
There is also a bin switch in many model that needs to be lowered in order for ice production to commence. It will look like shiney metallic bail and needs to be lowered. During normal ice production, as ice is harvested the fresh batch will push on the this bail and if it pushes far enough it will cause the controls to stop ice production. Once the ice level lowers and the bail is allowed to lower, ice maker will start making ice again.
Hope this helps

How to get water to run in new fridge icemaker

If it's the first time water has been applied to the icemaker it will take some time to push out the air in the line. When there is no air in the water stream from the door dispenser, you can be assured the air is gone to the ice maker too. The ice maker itself has an adjustment for the water level in the tray. It may need adjusting. If you don't have the instruction booklet for the ice maker, you can get it on Frigidaire's web site.

Water leaks under viking professional and there is about a 1/4 inch build up of ice on floor of freezer(which is on the bottom) on the floor of the pull ot freezer

Your drain is plugged. Basically the freezer goes into defrost and melts frost off the condenser coils. A big piece most likely fell off and freezer came out of defrost before it coulld melt and drain out completely. To fix you have 2 options. Have towels
#1- move contents of fridge and freezer to a backup fridge. Leave unpluged with doors slightly opened for 24 to 48 hrs. Use towels to cleanup any water. Plug back in wait 2 hrs to make sure temp gets back down before putting contents back in fridge.
#2- Remove contents from fridge and put in ice chest. Have towels ready. Remove ice maker ( if there is one) usually two screws on top hard to see and one on bottom. Disconnect the quick connect for the ice maker. Remove screw on back wall. Be careful when removing air vent on back wall. Its plastic and can break. Remove back panel. Look on the silver plate under coils and you will see ice and where the drain is. Remove ice than pour hot hot water down drain until it flows freely into drain pan under fridge by compressor. It may look like there is not ice make sure othyerwise you will be doing this all over again in a few days. Once water flows freely put everything back together wait about 2 hrs for freezer temp to get cold enough and than you can put contents back in freezer. If you have any question or need help please feel free to comment me back.

My frigidaire side by side freezer freezes up and the filter in the refrigerator leaks water. It makes ice fine but will not freeze ice cream. theres a big clump of ice in the back which is under a cover...

the leaking water is the problem. it needs to be fixed, but till then defrost again, use a fan it speeds the process, SHUT OF WTER to ice maker. restart fridge it will work normally. now find parts needed to fix the ice maker water feed.
the leaking water overwhelms the defroster. and causes a coil freeze up, this impedes cooling and air circulation over the evaporator coils

Refigerator is cooling in the lower area and not in the top, the freezer is coolinf fine

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE DIALS ON THE CORRECT SETTING. IF SO, TAKE A LOOK UP TOP AND PUSH AND HOLD THE DOOR CLOSE BUTTON, WITH DOOR OPEN UNTIL YOU HEAR THE FAN COME ON. IF THE FAN DOES'NT COME ON WITHIN 5 TO 10 MINUTES, THEN YOUR FAN IS NOT BLOWING THE AIR DOWN. TAKE APART THE INSIDE OF THE TOP BY REMOVING BOTTOM AND BACK PANELS AND AIR FLOW DUCT WHICH ALLOWS THE AIR TO FLOW DOWN. SOME MODELS COME WITH ICE MAKERS, REMOVE THIS 1ST. 2ND THE BOTTOM. 3RD THE AIR FLOW DUCT. 4TH THE BACK PANEL. NOW WITH YOUR FINGER, SPIN THE FAN BLADE TO SEE IF IT TURNS FREELY. IF IT DOES, PUSH IN AND HOLD THE DOOR BUTTON IN WITH THE DOOR OPEN UNTIL THE FAN STARTS TO SPIN. NOW AT THE BACK OF THE TOP IS A DRAIN HOLE AND AIR CANALS. MAKE SURE THEY ARE NOT FROZEN SHUT WITH ICE. IF THE DRAIN HOLE AND AIR CANALS ARE FROZEN YOU CAN USE HOT WATER TO DISSOLVE THE ICE, BE SURE TO PUT A BUCKET AT THE BACK OF THE LOWER HALF OF THE FRIDGE TO CATCH THE WATER AS IT THAWS. WHEN THE DRAIN HOLE IN THE BACK IS COMPLETELY CLEAR, YOU WILL HEAR A SLURP SOUND. DO NOT POKE OR TRY TO CHIP ANY OF THE ICE LOOSE BECAUSE THIS WILL DAMAGE THE UNIT AND YOU WILL LOSE ALL COOLANT. AFTER YOU HEAR THE SLURP, IT'S CLEAR. MAKE SURE NO ICE IS BETWEEN THE AIR CANALS AND BEGIN TO PUT THE TOP TOGETHER. 1ST HOLD THE DOOR BUTTON UNTIL THE FAN RUNS THEN RELEASE. 2ND MAKE SURE THERE IS NO MORE ICE BLOCKAGE. 3RD PUT ON BACK PANEL MAKING SURE IT DOES NOT TOUCH THE FAN BLADES, AFTER PUTTING ON THE BACK PANEL, SPIN THE FAN BLADES TO MAKE SURE IT SPINS. 4TH PUT ICE MAKER BACK IN IF YOU TOOK ONE OUT AND MAKE SURE YOU CONNECT THE CONNECTORS FOR IT. 5TH INSTALL THE AIR DUCT. 6TH INSTALL BOTTOM PANEL. YOUR DONE. NOW CHECK FAN FOR PROPER OPERATION IN THE MANNER STATED EARLIER, AND IF IT OPERATES WITH NO PROBLEMS THEN YOU HAVE REPAIRED THE PROBLEM. IF THE FAN DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY, THEN REPLACE THE FAN MOTOR. ALSO REMEMBER WHEN YOU RESET YOUR COLD DIALS INSIDE THE FRIDGE, IT TAKES AT LEAST 24 HRS. TO ADJUST ITSELF. THIS TAKES APPROXIMATELY 45 TO 1&1/2 HRS.

Kenmore Ice Maker Not Making Ice

the water that is frozen in the fill tube could have come from the old water valve that you replaced ,you got to get the ice out, the easiest way ,though not the fastest ,is to unplug fridge for 24 hrs . and leave the doors open to let it defrost, the plug back up and hopefully in 5 or 6 hrs you'll have ice
