I need to update it Cindy, Normally you just go to the kindle store and down load your updates for specified model. Attached links will explain how to update your Kindle and what update you may need.

How To Manually Update Your Kindle Fire Firmware Software

Step by Step Directions for Updating Your Kindle Fire Tablet

A new, free software update available for your Kindle Fire HD 7" (2nd Generation). This update automatically downloads and installs on your Kindle Fire when connected wirelessly; however, you can also manually download the software and transfer the update to your device via USB cable.

Swipe down from the top of the screen to open Quick Settings, and then tap More.

1. Download & Install Software Updates Automatically.

The software update automatically downloads in the background, and installs after the download is complete and the device is asleep. Your Kindle Fire will restart during the software update. After the restart, the message"Kindle is upgrading" will appear on the screen.

existing Amazon Kindle account. The good news is if you bought it from Amazon new, Amazon automatically registers it to your existing account. So . . .

Go to the Amazon website using your laptop or desktop computer and log onto your Amazon account.

Sounds like your wife's kindle is registered in your name. You can find out by logging into your account on amazon. Up the top open your account window then scroll down and click on " Manage Your Devices". If your wife's kindle in on your account then you have to unregistered it from your account then see would register it in her name. She can do this while on her kindle table.

1 Connect the Kindle Fire to your computer using a USB cable.

3 Copy or move the Kindle Fire files you want backed up over to your computer's desktop or other location.

Part 2 Reset the Kindle Fire
