Mini Danby Fridge Won't cool but compresser is running very HOT!(Model DCR412BLS) the fridge has just recently been moved into a warmer environment without air conditioning. As well, it had accumulated quite a bit of built up ice which has been removed (because i unplugged the fridge to let it drain). I thought that may solve the problem, however now it is getting cold in the freezer compartment without any circulation into the fridge. It hsa been suggested that it is a gas leak. As well, I have turned the unit upside down as I have read that it may help to turn it upside down then upright to temporarily unclog any build up. Do you think I should just leave it unplugged, as a gas leak may be dangerous?

Danby fridge old model - freeze working but fridge section does not

Yes it has a fan you should here it and feel it. It sounds like your defrost coil may have gone out. Take the back pannel of the freezer off and see if it is clogged with frost.

Why does my fridge not cool, the fan doesn't kick on and the black little tank gets really hot?

A fridge operates due to adiabatics, which is the ability of a gas to absorb energy by compression, which turns to heat, then dispel heat by evaporation. The little black tank is a compressor which compresses the gas in the condensation loop. When the gas is compressed it heats up, so the little back tank will get hot, as will the condensation grid, often at the back of the fridge, which acts like a radiator to cool down the gas inside. When the gas is evaporated into the evaporation loop, it expands again and any rise in temperature caused by the compression will be lost. Add to this loss in temperature caused by the radiator and you have a total net loss in temperature which is significantly cooler than what you started with.
The problem with your fridge has to start with the fan not working as this fan will help to cool the condenser radiator, unless it is a fan inside the unit itself which just distributes the cool air. (without knowing the make an model of the fridge I cannot determine the reason for the fan). Modern low energy fridges have a better and more economical set-up and it seems that your fridge has seen better days. The compressor is clearly working overtime to get so hot and particularly if it never seems to shut down or the fridge cool down. Sadly, I think it's time for a new fridge. You'll save the money you are currently spending on the electricity to run the old one.

Fridge running warmer than it should, Cooling fan on back doesn't turn, the compressor/condensor running very hot , and no new ice being made. Cleaned the cooling grid which was full of dust.

Here is the basic idea on how to keep the refrigerator, air conditioner, or vacuum cleaner to work properly. Air is moved by an electric fan or blower in order for that product to work properly. If air movement is blocked the fridge won't get cold, the central air conditioner won't cool enough, the vacume cleaner won't clean as well. Check on your fridge's air movement by inspecting the bottom of the fridge for dust and cob webs. Remove the front bottom clip-on plastic grill. Or also even access the lower back of the fridge by removeing the screws holding up the heavy cardboard cover to see inside. Blockage of air flow will prevent a fridge from getting cold. Just like a vacuum cleaner stops working when the bag is filled with dust and fibers. The air could be blocked by the accumulation of dust and fibers. Look under your fridge if it is cloged, it will look just like the stuff on a dirty central air filter.

Dust and fiber buildup blocking the fridge's air movement from back to front (or visa-versa) of your fridge will slowly (years) prevent how good it cools. The build-up of dust and cobwebs prevents your fridge from cooling (more specifically prevents the heat to disapate from the metal heat disipating fins attached to the metal tubes to be blown off by the fans air). OK! Remedy for a vacuum cleaner REPLACE THE CLOGED VACUUM BAG.

Remedy for your fridge manually REMOVE THE CLOGING DUST AND FIBERS FROM UNDER YOUR FRIDGE. SORRY fridge manufacturers do not provide a dust filter like the vacume cleaner and central air systems manufacturers do. You have to figger out the best way you can clean it. Possibly vacuum with a crevice tool, or use a small brush than vacuum. The extreme would be unplug the fridge ( so you won't get electrocuted) bring a water hose into the kitchen and spray water at cobweb buildup at the bottom fridge, than wet vac the floor then wait 20 minutes to dry before pluging the fridge back into the electric outlet.
When you stand in front of your fridge and you hear the fridge electric motor turn on, the fan will blow air.The fridge

Koolatron Mini Fridge Overheating

Check the condensor fan behind the fridge which is designed to cool the compressor/gas line by blowing air over the condensor. When this fan motor seizes or stops running, the gas gets very hot and because it is skin cooled too, the outside of the fridge also gets very hot. You can overcome the problem temporarily by putting a standing fan behind the fridge, blowing onto the compressor and under the fridge untill you can have the problem rectified.
