if the water is on its probably time to change the water valve on the unit. They go bad quite often. Hope this helps.

That is a faulty defrost system.

Test the defrost thermostat, heating coil and fan, and replace the faulty part.
the defrost system is located behind freezer firewall.

Pour about 1/2 cup of water into icemaker . If it freezes and dumps , the water valve is bad ( where the wall water line connects to the fridge ) . If it freezes and does not dump and the ice stays in the icemaker , replace the icemaker . Also check the fill tube ( the tube going from the freezer wall to the icemaker itself ) to see if it has frozen closed . If it has , the water valve is not closing completely , and letting a drop thru and freezing in the tube . Also an indication of a bad water valve .

When an icemaker slows down , as long as the fridge AND freezer are cooling normally , it usually indicates that the coils need cleaning of dust , lint , pet hair , sand , etc...Also make sure the fan by the compressor is running to keep the compressor cool .

If this is your water dispenser leaking
Your water inlet valve on the back where the water supply comes in is probably leaking. disconnect the water line coming out of it and see if you have a slow drip. Try the dispenser to see if it's just drips after use.

its soundss like iuts stuck in defrost mode.

I had a Whirlpool Model GD5SHAXNS in which the icemaker quit working about the same time (3 years old). I had water out the dispenser, I found that it was the icemaker itself failed not calling for water to fill it. I replaced it with a icemaker on-line for about $100 and problem fixed. I have been told his is a common problem with the icemaker in this model ref.

whirlpool side by side refrigerator, quit working. not cooling or making ice compressor surging on and off.Does this mean it need freon? and can we do it our selfs.

the tube that is at the back could be froze up or the valve is bad
