This is hard to say what it is for sure but I would think your problem is your battery needs replacement. The wifi works fine with a good battery but uses much more power than anything else so it can quickly drain an older battery. If it is older than a year or so it might be it. I have a lifedrive that will kill a battery within a few minutes on the wifi. When new I could use it for several hours. If you put it on the charger it should work normally if this is the case.
