LG 43 flat screen TV no picture but have sound if problem is LED strips why does the power/LED driver board show very low voltage with the LED strips disconnected? Any easy way to test LED strips?

LED strip has failed bad enough (e.g. LED burning open) resulting in power supply over-voltage or under-voltage protection kicking in.

Solution is to open the LCD panel and replace strips, preferably all of them with new, though some techs would only patch/fix the bad ones.

It's not something I'd recommend doing for first time on a 60'' TV.

It's not a rocket science, but has its traps and if you want to see that TV working bring it to someone local who does that.

Alas it's one of the things that can't be serviced remotely, like a main board, for example, which you can send to someone and have it repaired.

This is a common problem for LG 42LN5xxx & 47LN5xxx LED TVs, the problem is defective LED back lights strips, it has nothing to do with main power supply & the main board.

In such cases, the power supply board might need replacement. To some models sets, the back-light inverter and SMPS section circuit will be integrated at its main board itself. If so; the main board should be replaced. To some models of sets, all these section circuit will be integrated at its main board. If this is the case, you have to replace the main board.

You have wasted your time and money. The LED power supply and LED strips are only the backlighting. The only thing that might fix is a situation where you have a blank screen with the sound working.

If you don't know what you're doing, DON'T OPEN THE TV UP TO FIX IT, THERE ARE HAZARDOUS VOLTAGES ON THE POWER SUPPLY BOARD, EVEN WEEKS AFTER THE TV IS UNPLUGGED!

If you don't know how to do it yourself, find some local Electronic repair shops, get quotes, try to find reviews on the shops.

The inverter supplies the voltage to activate the screen. There are usually 2 boards, a slave and a main board. Sounds like one of them is leaking voltage and causing the screen to go dark after the initial start up. Make sure you didn't joggle something loose while you were replacing the power board check all connections. GL

It will be best to replace the power supply regulator board as card basis rather than making "Surgery" to it; which usually will make loss for both money and time. Even though you can make it right, it will cost around an amount equal to the cost of a new board; including the cost of (spare parts + service charge) More to say, most of the spare parts to it will be difficult to get from open electronic spare part market. This is true to most of the flat panel TV power supply boards; irrespective of its brand and screen size.

Back light led driver or the led array is faulty. check and confirm the voltage to the led back light from the power supply. normally 35V to 100V according to the brand and model of the tv. Check the voltage if the voltage is somewhere around the above mentioned voltage the then the tv have problem with the led array behind the screen . If the voltage is missing then the led driver is faulty. Normally the led drivers is found integrated to the power supply board. If so then you have to replace the power supply board as a whole.

Chance your led strip if you are sure that your power supply led module is working perfectly

Definitely odd for sound to come through and not sound, especially via an HDMI connection.

I would contact LG for support, your TV could be defective.
