SOURCE: Porta Band saw blade jumps off

I had this problem on a used model 725 that I bought. Apparently the rubber tires on the drive wheels develop a bit of a memory after sitting for a while with tension on the blade. I tried cleaning the tires to no avail. Then I removed both tires, flipped them over and re-installed. Still not fixed. Then I put only one back to the original position and the problem was solved. Other than the frustration of trying several times, I was out nothing and I got quite proficient at taking the blade in and out. The saw has worked fine ever since. I hope this simple (and free) solution works for you.

SOURCE: manual or info on a rockwell 28380 14" band saw

I can't find one for the exact model number you have, but there are a lot of manuals for the same era bandsaws available as PDF downloads at this site. Perhaps another manual for a similar machine will help answer most of your questions, in lieu of the correct one...
Have a look around there, though, at both the Delta and Rockwell listings, as I just made a quick look to find yours and there might be something there somewhere.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

Delta shopmaster. . How do i instal blade guard on Delta shopmaster?

To adjust the blade guides , you have to loosen the lock nut ( it's normal on the upper part of the guide kit, outside part). Move the guide carrrier until both bearings are approximately 1/16" behind the gullets of the blade. Release the adjusting screws to set both bearing guides to within 1/32" of saw blade by turning the micro-adjusting knob. You can then lock the bearing guide in position once the correct adjustment is reached. This works on 14" band saw. This is an instruction from the manual.

Ryobi band saw blade does not cut straight

The side guides should be just off touching the blade (top and bottom) The thrust bearing behind the blade should be just off th blade while it is free running (T & B). The amount of blade exposed to the timber needs to kept to a minimum - like top guide abou 1/4" above timber. Then, correct tension for blade size :)

I have a new JET JWBS-10OS. I bought it rather than a scroll saw because it is more versatile, but I do need it for scroll work. I purchased a 1/8 inch blade and had trouble with the installation. The...

Hi,

I'm not a Jet tech, just a bandsaw owner.
First, when you are adjusting the tracking knob, are you turning the wheel by hand for several revolutions to be sure which way it is running before making another adjustment? After tweaking it, you should turn it a bit to let it settle in. Also, be sure to tighten the adjustment knob down before turning it on.
The bearing guides have more adjustment places than just the finger adjusters. On mine, a Steel City, I can move the entire guide holders back and forth, and can also move the entire guide set up back and forth. The guides are there to keep your blade from having too much movement while cutting. They are not supposed to actually touch the blade though. I adjust mine with a dollar bill between the guide and blade. If you have one guide that isn't exactly perfect, don't worry about it. The blade guard will also keep the blade from wandering.
I've never used my bandsaw for scrolling work, so am not familiar with the 1/8 inch blade. Should work if you can get your tire adjusted correctly.

Good luck.

I hope this helps. If it does, I'd appreciate a vote or comment. Thanks,

Mt 18 inch horizontal band saw is not cutting square

Thicker metal shows greater blade / saw adjustment errors. A simple 1/64 or 1/32 wont show much on an 1/8 thick piece of metal when cut.
Those numbers will double quickly as the cutting blade travels through thick metal.
Metal band saws seem to be trickier to adjust and fine tune because the blade seems to be twisted into the roller guides.
The downloaded manual for the saw that looked most like mine at grizzly.com helped my adjustments a lot.
The saw quality is also a factor.

8 inch delta band saw that cant keep the band in place in use

The rubber bands on the metal wheels are called tires, and if they are cracked, they may very well be crowned and causing the problem with the band coming off.

To test, remove the back guide (as opposed to the side guides) on the top and bottom guide sets (above and below the table.). Put a blade on, and see if it will stay on. If it doesn't, replace the tires. If it does, reinstall the back guides and make sure they do not touch the back of the blade when the saw is running. There should by about 1/32" between the guide and the blade.

Cuts in circles,,even with new blade

The saw needs to have the blade guides adjusted properly. There are 2 sets of them . One above the table and one below. They may be solid pieces of steel or they may be sealed ball bearings They are the things that move in toward the blades sides to keep it tracking in a straight line. They need to come in toward the blade as close as possible without touching it. I set mine with a piece of paper as a spacer. set both sets like this and your saw should cut straight. Hope this helps you

Tile saw not cutting straight

Sometimes a blade that is set deep enough will walk in this manner, especially if it is a thin kerf blade like the MK Hotdog blade.

Also, a blade which has worn unevenly will do this too.
