If you are jumping the solenoid and it cranks but wont start leave the key in the on position and give it a try. Try replacing the solenoid and the wires conecting it to the battery.
is the motor getting hot? try lubricating the main bearings.sounds like dry bearings .farr64

Take out all the screws. Gently remove half of the case. Put a shim in behind the plastic pivot that rocks the switch. I rolled up a 1/2" by 3" piede of duct tape and jammed into the back of the oval socket for the rocker. This pushes the rocker against the switch hard enough so that it rocks the switch properly. Snap the case into place and test the switch before you put the screws back in to make sure it is now working properly.

Try Platt Electrical supply - 800-257-5288 (Platt.com) BLACK & DECKER #89754-01 REPLACEMENT BRUSH. It seems the entire motor head was manufactured by DeWalt and is now obsolete. I don't know if these brushes will fit, but someone there may help.
Good Luck!
