It's usually because your remote batteries are low. Remotes are known to send off some weird signals when they're on the last bit of juice. Your TV could be interpreting infrared noise from your remote as an "On" command. The power button on the remote or the TV itself could be stuck.

I had the same exact problem.
I removed the bulb and cleaned it. There is a small screen at the top of the bulb and it was covered with dust. Once it was cleaned I replaced the bulb and it solved the problem.

I have the same problem. I fixed it for about 3 months by wrapping duct tape around the large pack midway in the cord (where the wall plug and TV line plug in). But, it started up again this week. I can't get the "box" open either, but that is where the problem is. Mine is mounted to the wall, so no one ever touches the cord. I'll let you know what we find when we get it opened.
