Brother sewing machine needle hitting the needle plate. BUT, it only hits when the front cover is on the machine.

Ok so i needed to clean and oil the bearing and I did. Did not touch anything else in machine. put it all back together and it worked great for a very short time then all of a sudden the needle started hitting the plate. when I took the cover off to see if I missed something I turned the wheel and the needle didnt hit anymore. Its not dirty the needle is new and its the correct needle. So Im beyond frustrated now not being able to figure out what is causing it to hit ONLY when cover is on. Im not an expert on repairing machines so perhaps I needed to do something specific when replacing the cover that I was not aware of.

Needle might be bent or a new bobbin holder might be needed

SOURCE: Needle hits the plate

Remove your needle plate, clean around it, turn the handwheel to see if the hook will catch your thread(Like you are trying to bring up the bobbin thread). If it catches okay, put the plate back on and as you tighten the screw push the plate towards the rear of the machine. Reassemble everything, rethread , insert a bobbin and try it by turning the handwheel again. If it still hits, you need a service. If it doesn't, have fun!!

SOURCE: My sewing machine needle is hitting the top of the needle plate

basically have to bend it carefully back by hand.... if you have a straight edge or even a small leveler (the kind with a bubble) you can check which direction it is bent and gently bend it back a little each time.

SOURCE: Brother XL 3027 sewing machine the needle hit the

That's ok, needles get bent all the time and sometimes broken too. Just give it a new needle (look on the shaft at the top of the needle, you should see a screw to loosen for removing the needle). Note that the needle is made with a flat side on the shank to locate it properly, watch how the bent one is positioned when you remove it.

Machine not taking up bobbin thread.Puckering underneath but top thread ok and stitch on top ok . Very frustrating as have oiled and re threaded bobbin many times with no result.

You may need to take q-tips and clean the lint out of all the places you can. Take the bobbin out and clean there too. Take the plate off and clean the feeder. Make sure you are using the same thread on the bobbin as you are using on the top. Rethread the top making sure it is threaded correctly. Change the needle...making sure it is the correct one. I have found that you cannot use Singer needles or white label needles. The only needles I have been able to use with Brother machines are Schnetz as the other needles are too long and cause some of the problems you are having + they break as the hit the bobbin. Hope this helps you.

My needle keeps hitting the plate and breaking. How do I fix this?

Take the needle plate off and see where it needle is connecting with the bobbin. The bobbin case may not be in place and this is what the needle is hitting.

I have a problem with the needle shaft. It seems to be overextended by about 1/8" to the front of the machine. My needle is hitting the forward part of the presser foot.

Remove the foot - does the needle hit the needle plate?

Is the needle bent?

If the answer is no to both questions, it could be the machine needs to be taken in for repairs.

The needle hits the throat plate

if a new needle still wont align with the needle plate, your needle bar is out of whack

Needle getes broken

Check to see if your needle plate is gouged or signs that the needle is hitting the plate. If so, you may be pulling a little too hard when the fabric is feeding. Sometimes when you pull too hard, it pulls the needle back and it will hit the plate instead of going into the needle hole and you will break needles. Try just letting the fabric feed itself and you simply guide it to make sure it stays in a straight line.

Breaking needle

Sounds like the timing is off, have to take foot off, take plate off, put it in the zz position and using the hand wheel turn(with new needle in) and see where it is hitting feed dog, loosening the screws to the feed dog and moving it in the opposite direction out of the way so as not to hit. let me know how that works
