SOURCE: I cannot log in to my gmail account.

There should be a lost password option where it sends you a new password to another email address that was posted when you setup the GMail account.

Point your web browser at http://www.gmail.com

If another account comes up, sign out of it by clicking the avatar in the upper-right then clicking "Sign out."

If you then still can't log into your account, click the "Can't access your account?" link on the sign-in page.

SOURCE: I need to log on yo my old old gmail account but don't know the password for it and when I try send an email to the account it comes back saying account permanently disabled

Try clicking http://www.google.com/contact/ 2/3 down the page there is a blue line that says
Browse our help centre-click that and you will find g accounts
At the bottom there on a blue screen in white letters there is
Checking if you have an account--- click
and follow the instructions- hope this will help
