All wireless security motions have a 3 min delay built into them. This means that whether the alarm is set or not when the motion detector picks up motion it shuts down for 3 min and will not pick up motion. This is done to conserve battery power. So I always advise customers to arm the system and stay away from the motion for 3 min total. example: 60 sec to arm system + 2min wait time. then try to trigger motion. If this does not help and assuming batteries are good, you'll need to replace motion. Good luck. This may help https://al.ly/vR54zP

SOURCE: Since the VEO motion detector is no longer

The motion detector is available new on Ebay right now from an electronics surplus dealer. Just type in 12v motion as your search and at least half a dozen come up. I bought one and it was new in the box with the instructions.

Why is the LED light completely off after the walk test and lockout time?

Yes, it works normally. Things have evolved in the technology of security systems and now it is standard to have any LED turned off on any motion detector (the LED's are now used for walk-testing only), the standard DSC and Honeywell wireless motions also do the same thing.

  • This is a normal function for your motion detector. It's also a great power saving function since most of the current draw on the batteries is when it's transmitting a detection signal so if you're home and moving around it will only transmit every few minutes instead of every second, saving on battery life significantly (up to 5 years on average) but after the 3-minute lockout the passive infrared scans continuously until it transmits another motion signal.
Reason: most burglaries are done by someone who has been there before, if they see the LED then they know the motion will catch them moving in that given spot, then they can "map-out" where it's safe to walk (where the LED doesn't light up) for when they plan to return for a robbery.

You can also make this device "more sensitive" by moving the jumper pin position by the right side battery and having the back mounting plate mounted using the bottom screw presets so it faces slightly downward instead of straight forward.

Helpful tip: Change the batteries every 4 years if you're using Alkaline (dead or not) since the detector was engineered "too energy efficient" and the batteries actually leak and corrode the interior PCB at about the 5-year point on about 15% of the detectors with factory original duracell batteries (from what I've experienced in field service).

How to Operate a Home Security System Without a Contract

Many homes have alarm security system installed, even though the current tenants may not have been the ones who paid for it. Some did pay for it but just can't afford the high monthly cost of alarm monitoring. Many people don't realize that once the alarm security system is installed only the monthly monitoring fee stands in the way of free home security. The alarm system still works without monitoring, and it is easy to configure on your own.
  • Install the dial capable motion detectors in place of the entryway motion detectors. The mounting directions and hardware will be included in the motion detectors' packaging. Often the old motion detector's hardware will mount the new one.
  • Connect phone lines to the new motion detectors as instructed by the manufacturer. Usually the lines connect from the new motion detectors to a phone or third-party dialer.
  • Program the dialer or the dial-capable motion detectors to dial the phones of your choice. Your cell phone is usually the most important phone number to program into the dialer to alert you quickly if there is an intruder.
  • Arm the alarm as you normally would. If there is an intruder, the new motion detectors will sense the movement and will dial your phone to alert you.
  • Tips & Warnings

    • Consider replacing the motion detectors that cover the windows and alternate entry and exit points, especially if you have a large home or one with several different entry doors.
    • If the dialer-enabled motion detector is capable, program a second and third phone number into the dialer to maximize effectiveness. Dialing your cell and your neighbor's home phone, for example, would be more effective when you are away from the area.

How can I disconnect the motion sensor from the GE Simon 3 Wireless Home Security System?

Your wireless motion detector has been "learned" or programmed into your system. It may be difficult to remove it without a knowledge of how to de-program and you'll also need an installation program manual. A much simpler alternative is to mask off the lens portion of the motion detector. If you are able to open the case cut a small piece of cardboard or heavy stock art paper and place it in between the motion's circuit board and the lens assembly. Once reassembled this will block the detector from seeing motion. If you can't figure out how to open the case another way is to take a piece of cardboard and tape it over the lens face on the outside. Hope this helps.

I have the Simon 3 security system with one motion detector installed. I didn't set this system up but would like to add another motion detector and was wondering how hard this is to program it into the...

I don't of any system that is simpler to add a device to. The process is in the manual and is something like press "add" on the panel, follow some prompts and press a button on the rear of the motion sensor. Pretty easy if you dont have keypad phobia. Electronic version of the manual is at this location (adding a sensor starts on page 18).

How do i set my simon 3 motion detector?

You have to put the motion in sensor group 17. You will see this list near the back of the thick installation manual that came with your Simon. Also, when installing the motion, when it asks you to trip the button on the sensor, all you have to do is take the back off of the motion. You will hear a beep. Replace the back, and continue!
