Fridge not cold enough and build up of ice at back of fridge

Hi there

Can you please help! My 1 1/2 year old smeg fridge freezer does not seem to be chilling properly and there is quite often too much ice at the back of the fridge behind the drinks rack and top shelf. What can I do to remedy the situation? Teh Freezer works fine though.

We had the same problem and were told that gas was not circulating properly. We had it topped up, but it broke a week later. It had to be scrapped.

May be your damper switch not closing your damper when it reaches tempature setting.

Why is my smeg fridge not keeping anything cool

Hi...the same thing has happened to me. My Smeg Fab28 refrigerator compartment has stopped cooling. The freezer still works. There was a build up of ice on the back fridge wall, and the milk was freezing up, so I turned down the temp. After the ice melted, I heard a bang like a bunch of ice had dropped. I turned the temp back up but it steadily stopped cooling even more. I decided to defrost the freezer, and had the power off completely for about 5 hours. When I turned it back on, the freezer worked, but the fridge is not cooling AT ALL.

Did you fix the problem and if so, how?

Thank you
Bev

SMEG FA550X fridge freezer. The ice maker has stopped working, freezer has thick ice built up at bottom, fridge does not appear to be keeping food cold enough as milk etc is going off quickly. Two to...

Your Ice maker may be the cause. if it is not holding water the water may be landing on the bottom and freezing, causing the ice build up and obstructing the air transfer from the freezer to the refrigerator. You can remove or replace your Ice maker. Then you will have to defrost your freezer to get everything back to normal.

Smeg Fab40 fan stopped working - there is a build up of ice at bottom right freezer.

There is an upgrade kit for the FAB40 to prevent ice build up which falls under the warranty for the FAB40. I've had it installed and it basically replaces the entire back of the inside of the freezer. Following the upgrade, my FAB40 would ice up completely, plugging the ducts to lead cold air to the fridge below. You can spot this syndrome by the water dripping throught the grate at the top of the fridge compartment. This is melted ice from the freezer ducts. SMEG has now sent their top guy, a drunk and pretty rude guy who replaced the whole backside again, and I'm hoping it will improve.

The bottom line is, SMEG is just ****. Very, very expensive ****. I invested about 10.000 dollars in SMEG equipment three years ago, and every single piece of machinery in my kitchen has broken and needed repair during that time. I deeply regret having bought stuff from them and next time I will definitely go with something different.

Freezer is cold but not keeping icecream frozen.

If, the fresh food section is 34- 38 degrees, then the freezer should be cold enough to keep ice cream solid. All of the cooling capability comes from the freezer section. I, personally, would not waste time or money on a ten year old box. Ten years ago it cost $1000, so, the outlay is $100 per year. Dump the old refrigerator and get a new one.

Freezer cold but not fridge

too much ice bulid up will stop enough cold air being blown into the fridge.Try turning it off letting all ice melt then turn it back on again and set thermostat at a lower temp. There may be ice you can't see.

Freezer problems

remove back panel of freezer. check if there is excessive ice build-up preventing air flow. if there is, then defrost carefully with a hairdryer (with appliance switched off) if no ice or frosting on pipework, check if compressor is running. if it is or hot to the touch or clicking, then you have a compressor fault and replacement is not diy. if compressor not running, then probably module fault
