SOURCE: I bought my Kindle in

Hi.

What you call 'password' is the network key that has been set for your local network.

It is a problem with the capital and with special characters. The problem depends both on the network key used and on Kindle's.

First :ensure that you are using the right network key for this router. If a different computer works with this key on same router, then it is the right one.

Second: try the following. It is a solution from this site. The workaround will get rid of the capital problem with Kindle. I quote:

"Turn on kindly, bring up Wi-fi networks, tap in the network key from the label on the bottom of the router.
HERE is the trick. When you press the Aa (large capital/small capital AA key, to the right of the space bar, it actually does not go to uppercase when typing in key, you have to use the shift arrow, (bottom left hand corner of keypad).
Type in the key..., move to submit, it should connect fine".

Third: If that does not work, then the network key may include characters not supported by kindle. If possible access the router using a LAN cable, and set the router to a key made only by ciphers with no letter, and set the new key on kindle, PC etc. to connect.

Regards.

Ginko.

I am trying to register my kindle but my password is not being accepted

If it is the Amazon.com account password then go online and change your password. If the device password then try the following:

Forgot my password

Did you forget the password used to unlock your Kindle? If so, you'll need to reset the device to gain access. By resetting, your Kindle will be restored to factory defaults, which means your registration information and content will be removed, and all settings will return to the defaults.

To reset a Kindle Fire 1st Generation:
1. From the lock screen, slide the Unlock Bar from right to left
2. Use the keypad to enter characters into the password/PIN field four times
3. You'll be prompted to reset your Kindle Fire. Tap "Ok reset"

To reset all other Kindle Fire models:
1. From the lock screen, slide the Unlock Bar from right to left
2. Use the keypad to enter characters into the password/PIN field five times.
3. When prompted to reset your Kindle Fire, tap "Reset"

To reset a Kindle 2nd Generation, Kindle Keyboard, or Kindle DX:
1. Slide and release the power switch to turn on the device or exit sleep mode
2. Enter "resetmykindle" in the password field and press the enter key on the key pad
3. Wait several minutes while your Kindle restarts

To reset a Kindle (5-way controller):
1. Press and release the power button to turn on the device or exit sleep mode
2. Select the keyboard key once on the password screen and enter "resetmykindle" in the password field, then select "Enter"

To reset a Kindle Touch or Kindle Paperwhite:
1. Press and release the power button to turn on the device or exit sleep mode
2. Tap the password field to bring up the onscreen keyboard
3. Enter "111222777" and select "OK"

If you don't remember your Parental Controls password, you can deregister your device instead of resetting, as long as you're connected to a wireless network. You'll need to redownload your content, but items that were transferred via USB will be kept. Here's what to do:

1. Visit the Manage Your Content and Devices (www.amazon.com/manageyourkindle) page on your computer
2. Select the "Manage Your Devices" link
3. Select "Deregister" to deregister your device from your account
Sync your Kindle, then register again.

If you need help with your Wi-Fi password, please contact your Internet Service Provider or router manufacturer.

How do I delist a kindle that I purchased as a gift for my daugter? Al Willinger [email protected]

When you register your Kindle, you'll be able to purchase and download content easily. You can register or deregister your Kindle on your computer through the Manage Your Kindle page, or right from your device.
Note: If you have a Wi-Fi only device, you will need to set up your Wi-Fi connection in order to register from your device.

To register or deregister your Kindle from your device:
  1. Move the 5-way controller down until "Settings" is underlined and press to select.
  2. Press the 5-way controller to select "register" or "deregister" from the Settings screen. If you don't have an Amazon.com account, you will be prompted to create one.
  3. When you register your Kindle, enter your Amazon.com user name and password (the e-mail address and password associated with your Amazon account) using the keyboard.
  4. Move the 5-way controller to select "OK."
Tip: If your Amazon user name or password contains characters or numbers not present on the Kindle keyboard, press the Symbol key to see a menu of additional characters.
Registering if You Don't Have an Amazon.com Account If you don't already have an Amazon.com account, you can create one at www.amazon.com. Here's how:
  1. On the sign-in screen, enter the e-mail address you want to use for your Amazon.com account. This e-mail address will be the one we use to send you updates about your orders.
  2. Don't enter a password. Check the button next to "No, I am a new customer" and then click the Sign in using our secure server button to continue.
  3. Enter your name and verify your e-mail address on the Registration screen.
  4. Enter a password for your new account and click the Continue button. We'll ask you to enter the same password twice to make sure it is correct. (You might also want to write your login informaiton so you'll have it later.)
  5. Visit the Manage Your Kindle page. Enter the serial number for your Kindle and click the Register a new Kindle button. You'll find Kindle's serial number on the outside of the box or on the Settings menu on your Kindle.
If you're unable to locate Kindle's serial number, don't worry. You've successfully created an Amazon.com account and can now register your Kindle wirelessly following the Registering Your Kindle instructions above.
