Don't think so - your tablet should connect to any wifi appearing in the tablet list you have the password for.
Some passwords, usually printed under the router, can be very complicated and great care must be exercised in order to duplicate them exactly.

If the laptop was able to detect and connect to a wireless signal and the Iconia won't you can check the warranty of the Iconia and call acer and they will be able to replace the unit. This is a common issue with Iconia that some of the device has a hardware wifi defect. You can also refer to the link below and see what happen with their Iconia and was able to talk to acer for a replacement.

Yes, Mike is right...MAC address do not change...maybe its the IP address...but then most of us including me have a dynamic Ip which keeps changing...but I do not have any problem in connecting through WiFi. Try switching OFF and ON the modem or upgrade to latest version...if nothing works...you can also opt for a static IP from the ISP.You can check in for the current IP in IP-details.com
