Vivitek Qumi Q5-RD turns off after a few seconds.

When I plug in the qumi and press the power button it makes two beeps and then the lamp turns on and displays the qumi logo. After that the lamp and the button lights turn off, but the fan is still running and blowing air. There are no blinking lights.

SOURCE: lamp will not come on. Press power button, fan

You might not be getting power from the ballast, it may be gone. The ballast is what gives the lamp it's major charge of high power.

The blink pattern does indicate that it is overheating. You can find the user manual for this device via a google search. The troubleshoot codes are on page 37.

How can I stop my Qumi Q5 shutting down after a minute?

It is most probably overheating. First you need to open up the unit and see if the fan moter is frozen. It is probably because you can't hear it spinning. There are usually two bushings one in the front and one at the rear of the motor. They are usually permentally lubricated but as we know nothing is forever. So, try to take some good quality oil like 3 in 1 and try to drip a drop on either side of the motor where the shaft comes out and then try spinning it by hand. Hopefully that may work but if not then as a last resort try spraying just a very small amount of WD-40 and try spinning it again. If it then does work then use the 3 in 1 again. WD-40 will probably clean the gum out of those bushings but it is not a proper lubricant so that is why you need to use that 3 in one or any good quality lubricant like gun oil.

If all else fails then you probably have a bad fan motor and it will have to be replaced. Just so you know I have had this same problem, usually with air conditioning fan motors and most of the time the lubrication method that I just described worked very well.

Good luck,

Marty

Source not found I am using an Acer Aspire One

Make sure you are using ports other than the USB port. Vivitek Service indicates that at least some of their projectors do not use the USB port for input. "The USB port is not in input port. This is used for service only. Please use another input port such as RGB input. Regards, Vivitek Customer Service

Hope this helps.
