Hi,

To change any of the settings, press 'set' until 'settings' is displayed, press 'ok', now you can either set the heart rate manually in 'limit set' (press 'ok' to change the settings and press 'set' to change)
or input your personal data to let it choose heart rate settings itself in 'user set' where you input weight, height, age and *** (sadly yes please is not one of the options ;¬) )

if you go to www.polar.fi the user manual is on there if you need more clarification.

Hope that helps,

Andy

I have a sweda watch with no battery. The only identification is that the front says "Lifeline". Can you "best guess" at a compatible battery?

I can't find much on the watch. Sweda is one company, and Lifeline is another.

https://www.google.com/search?q=Sweda+Lifeline+watch

Look inside the watch and look for an engraved number near the battery socket. If nothing there, a local jeweler will have a battery that fits the space. Voltage is 1.55 volts, silver oxide are best.

Set 12 or 24 hr on my Casio 3435 watch

depends on your use of watches and the environment you tend to be in. If you are somewhere that allows you to see whether there it is day or night, than using 12 hr setting will work just fine. However if you're in a place that keeps you secluded and you are not able to determine whether it is day or night than 24 hr. setting will help you keep track of not just the time, but whether it is day or night.

I calibrated my Timex WS4 using a known barometric pressure and set the weather conditions but the watch is telling me I'm at an altitude of -42 meters (which I'm not) and the temperature is at least 10...

You should carefully read the manual on this watch. It is a very sophisticated instrument realitive to its cost.

The barometric pressure in the CAL mode is set to the reference sea level. The pressure that is read in the other areas is the actual or relative pressure at your location.

There are some tollerences for the accuracy of these watches. What they are excellent at is seeing the relative differences or changes. I found that when I set the reference barometric pressure (Sea Level Pressure), everything falls in to place. I found the WP4 to be accurate to within about 15 to 20 feet accuracy for altitude most of the time. It is important to periodically check the barometric pressure from the weather office if you want it to be as accurate as possible.

When hiking or out trecking, it is advisable to check the watch's altitude relative to the map that you are using, or to a known reference. Then as you travel you can check for the altitude change.

Take care that this type of watch is to be used as a quick or easy reference only. It is not certified to be used in situations where life and safety are fully dependent on the readings from this type of watch. It is a precision instrument, but not as precise as the high end professional certified types. It is best to refer to proper maps (charts), and depend on a certified mechanical compass for absolute reference.

Heart rate zones

Heart rates are known by the garmin software as zones, numeroted 1 up to 9.
You can set on the software your heart rate, based on :
- HR max ;
- intermediate HR, linked to the zones.
Then, when you upload a session in the software, you will analyze the zones you ran in.

Another tip : to set on the Garmin itself, the Zones to ON,then Z0 to ON, and Z0 HRM to ON : here you can indicate your HRM low (ex : 165 for me) and the HRM High (185 for example). Then during your session, an up or down arrow will appear, indicate if you run below your HRM low (aerobic zone), your anaerobic zone (betwin HRM Low and High) or in VO2 max.

Hoping that's clear and that can help you.
