My computer, monitor, speakers, modem, and router are plugged into the Backup Battery side. A few months ago I would come home to find everything randomly powered off. In order to get them back on I simply turned off the power to the APC (depressed the "Power on" button on the APC) and turned it back on. Everything would start up fine. Today I get home and everything is off and whenever I power cycle the APC it clicks and everything turns on then the APC clicks again and everything cuts off.
Now, if I plug everything into the Surge protector only side, everything seems to work. Is this indicative of a dead battery? If so, should I replace the battery or the whole unit?
It certainly indictes a problem with the APC unit a replacement bettry may or may not solve the problem. Do you really need one as you have an anti surge protector?

I already have a surge protector in addition to the APC(which I am using now since the APC is dead-ish). What I need is a battery backup to give me time to save data before the computer shuts down in the case of a power failure.
Thank you very much! I thought the batteries would be much more expensive than $20. I figured they would be $50 or so like many cell phone/laptop batteries. Thanks again!
