Without brand or model, we are limited what we can do to help.
Do you have the paper in the correct way (thermal paper)
Have you installed the ink ribbon (plain paper)
Do you have the instruction book? If not go to the manufacturer's website. Is there a print On print Off button?
By not able to print, do you mean the paper is advancing but has no characters on it? or that the paper never advances and there is no activity?

    It is a plain paper printer with an ink roll, so the presumption is that the ink is not loaded correctly.
    I'm afraid we don't know what you are not doing.

Many TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on at all. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible.

Errors??
Sounds like the printwheels are out of time. Sorta of major repairs. gears on side of printer have to be lined up in proper areas. there are small black arrows on the gears. Best bet is look at a working machine and try to line up. Machine may not be worth the time unless you jsut want to try it. Sharp uses the same printers in many different models.
