SOURCE: scratched stainless steel

First, I would not use ordinary steel wool. Small microscopic iron particles get embedded in the stainless steel surface and could lead to rust. There is stainless steel wool, but I have experience using sand paper, so I'll tell you about that.

When changing a faucet, thinking it wouldn't harm a stainless steel sink, I used a kitchen knife to scrape that crusty residue left from hard water. I had put in several noticeable shallow scrapes on the top part of my sink where everyone could see it.

I used a series of silicon carbide, wet/dry automotive sanding paper to hide my blunder. First 400 grit, then 600 grit, then 800, then 1000. The 1000 grit was actually to "polished" looking so I went back and finished with 800 grit, blending the refinished area out to the rest of the sink top surface. I sanded in the direction of the surface graining.

For your backsplash, the type of finish will determine what grit you'll finish with. If is it polished to a high lustre, then you'll have to go to finer grits. If it is polished to a mirror finish, then you'll have to eventually finish with a polishing compound.

While working on my sink, I had gravity to help me put weight behind my work (so to speak), but on your backsplash you'll have to awkwardly push sideways to work the sand paper, plus you may have cabinets in the way and a hood to clunk your head into. Depending on how much trouble it would be, you may find it easier to remove the backsplash.

I you are not familiar with finishing metal, you could practice on a piece of sheet metal first, getting used to how much pressure to apply, and sanding in straight strokes so you can match the backsplash's surface graining. If your backsplash has a mirror finish, you could try a polishing disk on a drill or a dremel tool first.

SOURCE: want stainless steel front door for dishwasher

There are a couple of ways to do this. The easiest one is to check out www.applianceart.com and they have many different options for "wrapping" the front of your dishwasher. They change it often so if you don't see it, call the company becuase I know they have it.

SOURCE: How to clean the stainless steel stove top

Someone else suggested Easy Off Oven Cleaner (I used fume free). I just finished using the Easy Off (make sure you cover the electronic ignition) with Q-Tips and my top looks almost as clean as when I first got it.

Fix scratches on stainless steel appliance

The professionals in order to remove the scratches from st. steel they use special metal wire meshes like soft scotch bride attached on special rotary milling machine. They brush it in the direction of the grooves on the st. steel surface. They start with a hard brush and they reduce the strength until they finalise it as the original finish. If it a brush surface this is more easy than a polished mirror surface. These procedure need experience and care so you will not end up with more damage than the original one.

The door is getting rusty. I believed that stainless steal didn't rust. Is there a way I can remove the spots?

Normally these appliances use brushed steel which gives a stainless steel look.

Get a magnet and run it on the sheet. If it sticks then it definitely is not stainless steel.
However, with wear and tear stainless steel surface does break down causing rust to start.

To remove rust go to this site.

How do you get fine scratches of the stainless steel door?

Firstly remove the handle, find the "allen" screws at underside of handle ends. Start first with a coarse towel and "re-scratch" the area. If that was not enough becoming more aggressive, use much care/ gentle pressure- a 3m scotch brite #7447 "going with the grain", you in essence are removing those scratches with scratches. Use DeBruce Polish with the grain for rourine cleaning and touch-ups. We use DeBruce Polish on all of our stainless steel. Non-toxic, non-abrasive and odorless, DeBruce Polish also works on glass cook tops. We get DeBruce Polish at debrucepolish.com.

How to remove scratches from stainless steel appliances

Try this at your own risk. Step 1 Consider using a product made for stainless steel2_bing.gif such as Scratch-B-Gone or Bar Keepers Friend (see Tips).
  • Step 2 Or, try spraying an all-purpose cleaner (such as Formula 4092_bing.gif) on the scratches.
  • Step 3 Use a non-metal scouring pad (such as Scotch-Brite pads) to rub the cleaner in, always rubbing in the direction of the grain.
  • Step 4 Keep the stainless steel wet with the cleaner as you work, and rinse the pad often.
  • Step 5 Rinse the surface and wipe dry.

    How to clean stainless steel

You say your new oven...and DW have stains...I will assume (if that's OK) that you have a stainless steel oven...and are washing stainless steel in the DW...but you are having streaks and or white...spots or deposits...Sounds like hard water...you may try a localized..(just for the DW and kitchen sink area) filtration system...to reduce hardness of water...(is this well water)..if so you definitely need filtration...if you don't already have it.
Here are some issues and or cleaning techniques for stainless steel.

stainless steel is known for its ability to be a clean surface that resists corrosion and rust. Dirt, dust and grime, however, put stainless steel at risk for corrosion and rust. Luckily, stainless steel responds well to cleaning, never wearing out from excessive cleaning, as long as certain rules are followed. 1. Water and a cloth.
Routine cleaning can be accomplished by using warm water and a cloth. This is the least risky option For cleaning stainless steel. Dry with a towel or cloth to prevent water spots. Wipe in the directions of the polish lines.
    2. Mild detergent, (dish washing liquid) and cloth.
For cleaning that needs more power, mild detergent and warm water can do a great job without damaging the stainless steel. Make sure you rinse the surface thoroughly to prevent staining and spotting. Towel dry to prevent water spots which can be caused by minerals in water.
    3. Glass cleaner for fingerprints.
Fingerprints are one of the biggest complaints about stainless steel, but can be taken care by using glass cleaner or household ammonia. Rinse thoroughly and towel dry. There are some newer types of finishes for stainless steel that resist fingerprints, a must if your pint-sized helpers leave their mark on your stainless steel appliances.
    4. stainless steel Cleaner.
If you’ve had staining or scratching, or need to polish your stainless steel, a stainless steel cleaner may be a good option. Some of these cleaners and polishes can help minimize scratching and remove stains. They also can polish stainless steel surfaces nicely. Read the directions on the stainless steel cleaner and test in an inconspicuous spot. Be sure to rinse thoroughly and towel dry.

If this does not help please clarify...with specific model #'s and walk me through (step by step) what the specific problem is and how you address it....Thank you and I hope this helps.............
    Good Luck...........The Fang.

    SCRATCHED STAINLESS STEEL SINK

Have you tried a really fine steel wool? I don't know if this would work. I have stainless steel farmhouse sink, front exposed all stainless steel. My contractor scratched it up horribly when he was putting it into the kichen. he fixed it amazingly with a fine steel wool pad. I don't know if your scratch is too deep for that but it couldn't hurt. The scratches on our sink were surface but very noticeable. Hope this helps.
