To be ale to remove the upper spray arm on the dishwasher pull the upper rack forwards and then turn the nut located above the spray arm and under the rack in a counterclockwise turn and then pull down. The spray arm will become loose to be able to detach and remove . To take out the top spray arm start first by removing the cutlery rack.
On my dishwasher, this arm attaches with a huge gray plastic screw. If it comes loose, you'll usually find the spray arm sitting in the bottom rack, but the screw falls down to the bottom of the tub.
The spray arm has a hole that goes all the way through its center. One of these holes is larger than the other, so the arm will only attach in one direction. Most of the spray holes on the arm face "up" when installed.
Slide out the upper rack, position the spray arm on its pivot, then insert the screw and turn clockwise to tighten it. The arm should spin freely.
If this arm isn't attached, none of the dishes will wash well (due to a loss of water pressure).
Thought I had a problem with the spray arm or pump because water was not flowing enough to spray the upper rack. But it turned out it was a simple part missing: the "check valve" that is in the lower neck of the spray arm assembly. It's a $10 part. Part #WD1X5488 for GE Potscrubber 600.
the clips that hold it in place are worn. you will have to replace it. they are not very expensive. to remove it simply unscrew the round disc above the arm
you should replace 3 parts in diagram, these are the upper spray are,the bearing, and the holding screw the #s are AP3191593/AP3794248/AP3425295 they coincide with the above parts and are all G.E. part numbers
We have a PDW7800J01WW that I removed all the arms on recently. There is a single hex-head screw that acts as the pivot at the center of the top most arm. Just remove this screw to remove the spray arm. Be very gentle reinstalling it though as it is easy to over torque it and strip the plastic hub it screws into.
