SOURCE: static
If the telephone line itself is static-free, connect a normal telephone to the same jack that the answering machine uses. If all calls are static-free, you've cleared the wiring and the telephone service provider. Next, plug the telephone into the jack on the back of the answering machine. If all calls are clean, but messages are still loaded with static, then we may be talking about a bad answering machine. If you have DSL service, make sure that there is a filter installed between the wall jack and the cord that goes to the answering machine.
SOURCE: I can hear callers leaving messages via my speaker phone.
If you truly have that, someone had to work very hard to turn it on. It's one of the buttons and it has to be lit red. Just press it! If you don't have any idea what button it is, you can press PROG and every button until Live Call Screening shows up. (LCS). There are password entries and the like to make LCS private. It's probably easier to refer you to the UG for a TDA system.
