Op, and older HP DESKTOP only 0 years old today 2011
your question lacks a question.
the word hOW TO , too hard to type? IDK, only can I guess you r meanings.
the answer is simple. power cord pulled from wall. AC wall jack.
1: mount the new drive in the HDD cage in side.
2:plug in HDD power cable from PSU.
3: plug in HDD SATA cable from SATA port to HDD.
4: power on PC, and in disk manager assign it a drive letter and format it. bingo works now. that simple,
the service manual stinks,
looks link no drive bay HDD2, there.
looks like no extra power cables for 2nd HDD, if you have no need for DVD , use those 2 cables will work, and if a SSD
recommended, just tie warp the SDD to the case bar just above the existing HDD.
there are no IDE PATA Drives, here per Andrew.
HP does show w10.64bit support, wises.
this PC is 100% SATA drive PC, ! not year 2000- IDE.

you will need to install the drivers for your drive.
xp doesn;t recognize 2.0 usb unless you install drivers and have a usb 2.0 port
but install the drivers and you should get it to recognize
you can go to control panel, system and device manager.
look for a usb device that is not working and right click install drivers or update drivers.
See if it comes up.
Once it does you will see it in the device manager under disk drives

Make sure the power supply switch on the back is set to 115v, its normally a red switch but could be black.
Once you do that see if you can turn on the computer and get video.
If not then with the computer turned off, take out the memory sticks and reseat them one at a time in each slot one at a time and try turning on the computer to see if you get video. If you still don't get video then try taking out the CPU and reseating it back into its socket properly. At the same time make sure there is no dust or dirt on the cpu or in the socket.
Try again and see if you get video. If you don't get any video this time then disconnect everything and only have power going to the motherboard. If you do this and you still don't have video then the motheboard is bad and would need to be replaced.

Probably not the right answer for your problem. Mine is an external 1 TB Simple Drive. Mine wouldn't respond at all. I unplugged the power cable from the back of the hard drive and replugged it in and instantly it worked (with the computer and hard drive plugged in). I had tried rebooting the computer, plugging/unplugging over and over into the computer and that didn't work.
