Make sure that the audio cables are properly connected for the source (component, composite video or VGA/DVI (computer or other device)). Disconnect any cable in the headphone port.
Was the TV ever used with an audio receiver? If so, the TV speakers may have been turned off. Go to the Home Menu. Go to Settings > Display and Audio > Audio Output > TV Speakers and set this to On. (For Quick settings, press and hold Home. Then go to Sound > TV Speakers and set to On.) If you have a universal remote, the remote could be set to give all audio commands to a receiver. Try the remote so the Audio commands go to the TV. (This will depend on the remote. Please add a comment with the remote brand, model and type (often inside the battery compartment) for the full programming information.)
If you are using external speakers with a receiver, you may need to change the audio settings to PCM for a digital audio output. (This is in the same Audio Output section of the standard menu.)
I hope this helps.

(I've locked several remotes to the audio system which causes this type of problem when the home theater system needs a wiring repair.)
Do a hard reset to this TV, and then check. There are two methods to reset TVs. The first is simple to do; a Hard Reset. The other is somewhat skilled; is a Factory Reset (System Reset). To make it a hard reset, just unplug the TV from AC mains wall socket, and re-plug it back after 15 minutes or so. If you do this by overnight is better. This procedure will make it a hard reset. If you want to make it a system reset [Factory Reset]; you have to enter its service mode option, and select the factory reset option. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Service mode entry, adjust and exit procedure to many popular brand TVs are given. Never forget to exit the service mode, after all adjustments have been done.
How To Reset Your Blu-ray Player To Factory Defaults (BD-C & BD-D Models)
Page 1
Page 1. Reset Your Blu-ray
Power on your Blu-ray player and tune your TV to the input where the Blu-ray player is connected. For example, if the Blu-ray player is connected to HDMI 1 press the TV input/source/line button to tune your TV to HDMI 1.
Remove any disc from the player and then press and hold the Stop button on the front of the player, not the remote, for about 8 seconds or until the front display reads 'SETUP'. 'Resetting all settings to default values...' is displayed on your TV screen as the Blu-ray player powers off and resets.
The Blu-ray player is automatically powered on after the reset and the select Language screen is displayed.
Try power-cycling your TV (e.g. turn it off and unplug it for several minutes). If the TV then powers on, reset to factory defaults. If the problem persists, your TV will require repairs. Service can be obtained by calling 1-888-237-8289 in the U.S. or 1-866-237-8289 in Canada.
Turn your TV off and unplug it for several minutes. Remove the batteries from any remote controls that you use for the TV, press all of their buttons, and install fresh batteries. Reset the TV to factory defaults. The universal remote control should not have caused any damage to the TV. If the problem persists, we recommend that you seek service by calling 1-888-237-8289 in the U.S or 1-866-237-8289 in Canada.
http://resources.jvc.com/Resources/00/00/94/YA059ien.pdf This is a link to a pdf copy of the owners manual for your model television. You can find all the setting and function controls listed in the manual. To reset the television to factory settings, you must unplug it from the a/c power source for about thirty minutes. This will reset the television to the factory settings. You can do the same thing with the remote control. Just remove the batteries and press the input button continuously for about 1 minute. This will drain all the power out of the microprocessor and reset the remote control to the factory settings. You can then use the owners manuals to reset the television and remote functions. On turning on the television the interactive plug in menu will appear. From here you can set the language you want to use for the television. All of this is explained in the owners manual. You will need a pdf reader and writer to read the owners manual and the writer to make a copy for your own use. I hope this information helps you with your problems with the remote control and television. Thank you for using FixYa and have a nice day!
The easiest way to fix this is to do a master reset and let the TV reprogram ll of the channels. You must have the original Sony TV remote to do this. When you have the remote, find the circular area of the remote with four buttons in a circle around a center button.. Turn on the TV and Press and hold the top button (the Up button) of the 4 buttons arranged in a circle. Then, while holding down this Up button, press the power button ON THE TV (not the one on the remote) and release both buttons. The TV should now reset and come up and ask for a language choice. You choose the language using the 4 keys mentioned earlier (the top and bottom of the 4 keys for up and down and once you have the choice you want, press the button in the middle). After choosing the language, it will ask to autoprogram the channels. Choose yes and let it autoprogram and all of the channels should reappear.
Perform a master reset by doing the following: Turn the TV On With the original Sony remote, hold down the "up" button in the 4 direction buttons (uo, down, left, right) While holding down the up button on the remote, press the power button on the TV (not the one on the remote) The TV should reset and restart, asking you which language you wish to use. After choosing the language, let the TV do an auto program and you should be OK Please rate this solution. Thanks!
