Can I use the bulb from an older sony rear projection on a newer sony LCD projection tv.

If it an older LCD, it is back lit with a bulb. The newer TV all say LED TVs. If it says that, these are also LCD tvs, using LED for back lighting.

Replacing the bulb won't fix this problem. This is a defect in the optical block, which is apparently fairly common.
The best way to get in contact with the team that can fix this problem is by facebook. While on facebook, type "I have a defective Sony TV" in the search bar. This will bring up a page that is moderated by the SonyListens Team.
Post a comment about your TV, be sure to list your model number and a description of what's wrong with it. Someone within a few days will give you more information as to what steps to take next. It will seem like a lot of hoops to jump through, but in the end will be worth the time it took, as Sony will offer you huge discounts on a newer TV (I recently went through this, and got a new 3D ready TV for about a quarter of it's suggested retail value). If you are not on facebook, they list a contact email address as [email protected]
Also worth noting: if you have receipts for recent repairs or replacement bulbs, you can submit them along with the other info, and Sony should adjust the offer price to compensate.
One word of warning though, once you have started this process and have received an offer from Sony, you will only have a week to claim the offer, so make sure you have the funds to put down on a new TV before you start.

Look at Optical Engine Faults before buying a lamp or bulb. Replacement bulb will not repair these problems.

This problem is very common with rear projection TV's.

It is related to one or more of the colour guns (Bulbs) being out of alignment. The only way to correct this issue is to have a technician come in and fix it or bring it into a repair center. I personally would suggest purchasing a new TV. The cost of getting them aligned is usually more then a basic LCD.

All LCD TVs (except the newer LED versions) are back lite on the edges of the TV. Depending on how faint the image is you may simply be noticing the lights. Try adjusting the backlight or brightness.
Without an image this is the best I can do.

Hey there I think the problem is coming from your LCD chips not your bulb, the bulb has nothing to do with the color or skwiggly lines it just shoots out white light,your LCD chips are burnt and the problem will not stop by changing your light bulb you need to replace the OPTICAL BLOCK the skwiggly line will just get worst with time
