SOURCE: blank scrren with just mouse

Hi there.
Try booting into safe mode, this is F2 on start up, let all the drivers load up and see if it lets you in, if it does you can perform a system restore (a window may pop up giving you this option if its XP), restore the computer back a couple of days before the battery failed.

Good luck !!

Please try to attach an external monitor & see if you can get any display on it. If you can get display on an external monitor, then the root cause of the problems you have might be either a failing LCD backlight or a failing inverter board.

Please refer to the following article for more details on how to diagnose & troubleshoot LCD backlight & inverter board issues:

Try starting the PC in safe mode (press F8 as it starts) and then restore your PC to a date before you installed the updates. If that fails you must use your windows 7 disk to repair the system or just install it again.....

The system restore probably undid something really essential for the computer to work properly. Try hitting F8 when the computer is booting up, boot into safe mode, log in as admin and try to undo the last restore you did.

Dell 1501 inspiron laptop blank screen

Hi,

Have you installed any application/program prior to the blue screen? Most blue screen causes your system not to boot to your operating system anymore. It is possible that your hard drive is crashed due to a virus infections or spywares. Incompatibility and corrupted system registry may affect your system to have blue screen as well.

You may try the following steps below.

1. Restart your computer. After you pressed the power button to restart. Keep on tapping F8 key on the keyboard on and off.

2. Boot advanced option will show up on the screen. You may boot your computer to the following option.

a. Last known good configuration
b. Safe mode with Networking.

If Safe mode w/networking works, restore your computer to an earlier using the system restore features.

Keep me posted.

Regards,

jeff

Xp boots and hang up on blank screen

Insert the original Windows XP "System Restore" CD-ROM,
and tell your computer to "boot" from it.

Does it boot, and get to a screen that asks you "do you really want to ...", or does it stop at a "blank" screen?

If it "stops", you have a "hardware" problem.
If it "asks", then either:
* your disk-drive has failed, or is about to fail,
* your installed copy of Windows is messed-up, and it cannot complete the "boot" process.

Take your computer to a computer-store, for more trouble-shooting.

I Have a Blank screen and can't get rid of it. What do I do to fix the problem?

Run a system repair with your recovery or operating system disc. If the repair doesn't take, then the hard drive may have failed. Then reformat the drive (NTFS) and install a fresh operating system. If you have any problems during or after the format and install, then the hard drive has failed and will need replaced.
